Anyone else struggling with Infertility?

Thanks..

It's been over 2 years for me.

Last time I mentioned it on this forum everyone told me that I'm too young and too poor to be thinking about having kids anyway.

Kudos for being brave enough to mention infertility on BYC and open yourself up to all the judgement.

One cycle of IVF (not artificial insemination) using donated eggs can run $14,000 - $24,000 per attempt (here in Florida, anyway).

And for the record, NONE of our doctors have left our practice - ever. All are board certified in REI. Before pursuing expensive IVF cycles check out the CDC success rates - these are available to anyone.

http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/ART/FCT.aspx?SelectedYear=2007

...and volume matters. If you have a 50% success rate, but did 20 cases - that's not impressive. If you did 500 cases and had a 50% success rate (around the national average) - now you're talking!

We had spent between 17,000 to 18,000 on our attempt but we are still willing to try again.

yup..i believe so..i am going on Dec. 8th to get all the exact details..
but i believe that even if i get my own donor i STILL have to pay them the $5000..
which is bull crud... if i get my own donor that donates her eggs for free...why do i still have to pay?
hmm.png

But i will know more after next week...

What you're paying for when you pay for "donor eggs".

BIGGEST cost: meds cost $2-3,000. No bull.
Other costs: screening for STDs, screening for genetic problems, screening bloodwork (you don't want crummy eggs!) - several hundred (even with a contracted lab)
monitoring of donor while she's on meds - several hundred - thousand
fees paid to donor - around $3,000....or so.

and it's a BIG pain to donate eggs - it's not convenient, not painless, and a big commitment of time. Most donors only donate once or twice. Like I said - it's a big pain. But God bless the donors, it's the only way my sister got pregnant!

You might look at Attain IVF for some financing options...they have some good options: http://www.integramed.com/inmdweb/content/cons/shared.jsp Basically - if you don't get pregnant in 6 attempts, they refund you 80% of you monies...but there is a catch - Attain is not available at all clinics - the tend to align themselves with the more successful clinics. They have a list of clinics in your area.

Let me know if you want info - I have TONS and am glad to help...

eta: Yikes! I see we reimburse our donors $3,000 (not the $1,500 I'd originally posted)

Oh please do!!!! Need everything I can find. The pills I was taking cost us 3,000 alone.

we have been struggling with infertility for 13 years and getting older by the day. I would donate to others as many times as they need me to. I remember how PAINFUL it was but if some one is needing eggs to get preg. I would volunteer with both hands up!
