I notice a lot of people use old egg cartons to store their eggs. I was having a hard time because my carton got damp. I had a wire basket, so I lined it with a piece of flannel. Now I put all the eggs in one basket (haha). I use a sharpie pen to write the letter of the day of the week it is so I know which ones to use first. It looks really rustic.

I would prefer a basket or bowl but my son gets in the fridge and cracks the eggs all over the place. I appreciate he wants to cook but not in the fridge.

I've got a pretty handmade wooden basket that sits on my counter top with my eggs in it. It looks very nice with a big pile of multicolor eggs.

I don't remember where I got this basket but I've used it for years now to gather eggs. I have an old metal one but it seems like its too hard on the eggs and they crack. This one is just right and I finally lined it with cloth just to make sure.

So, do I understand from your responses that you don't bother keeping them in the refrigerator? I know that fresh eggs will last for weeks at room temperature... Keeping them on the counter in a neat container would be really awesome!!!

I keep mine on the counter for awhile...never more than a week, if that. Depends on the weather, really. In cool weather, they may stay longer. In hot or humid weather, I try to get them in the fridge in a day or so.
