Anyone else's hens quit laying?

Holy cow! That was sudden!!! I also have customers clammering for eggs right now. I have two customers that always are wanting 5 and 6 dozen at a time, which I've never been able to do. Hope yours start laying again very soon!

I do not add light to extend the day. After all the girls I've lost to internal laying, I'm not doing anything to make it worse. Thought I was losing my BR, Ivy, back when Rosemary died, but today, she is perky, energetic and seems normal...except that she is bone thin and not laying. I still think she's laying internally, though. Took Rosie 8 months to pass on and most of it, she seemed fairly normal. I'll just take whatever eggs they give me and be thrilled, as long as no one is dying at the moment!

I hear you there Cyn! You've really had a bad year with that. I really don't want to add extra light to the coop anyways. I'm just trying to make sure that we are letting them all out at first light in the morning, hoping that they will benefit from as much daylight as possible. I guess I'll just patiently standby and wait for the eggs. I just wanted to be sure that something wasn't really wrong with them.

My EEs quit "cold turkey" (no pun intended) too. My old reliable EEs were giving me 4-5 nice sized blue green eggs every day. Now, for the past 3 days, nada. I really got spoiled by them. Im getting the odd little pullet egg in my main coop, but nothing I can count out. I really miss heading out to the coop after work and coming back to the house with hands full of eggs.

I was getting 2 eggs a day from my 2 layers. With the occasional odd egg thrown in for a new layer.

I haven't seen a trace of an egg for (going on) 5 days now. Crazy. LOL

I hate it for every one of you, but I have to say I'm glad that I'm not the only one who is getting stiffed here!

Apparently this is totally normal behavior. I'm just wondering when the egg laying will start up again.

Does anyone know how long this egg shortage usually lasts? Is is all winter?

Oh me too. I thought I had more egg eaters! I've been checking faces daily. No yolks, no shells... No one is stealing them, the barn's completely pred proof. Ugh. I hope they lay soon. LOL

I have 2 pullets that have just started laying. My bantam cochins have been pretty steady. I have more eggs then I knew what to do with 2 months ago now I'm lucky to get 4 a day.

I posted a reply to another thread a while ago. Same thing happened to mine. I have a light on a timer in my coop. As the days got shorter I had the light turning on earlier. My egg production came back up to normal. They have artificial light for about 3 hours before the sun comes up. It sure helped me. Only one out of six hens is not laying b/c she is molting. The other 5 are all laying an egg a day.
