Anyone ever ordered ducklings from Meyer Hatchery?

I'm in Ohio and thought Meyer Hatchery was in Ohio, but I guess not. The ducklings I ordered are being shipped from California, so I'm actually feeling really nervous about them being in a truck for so long. Especially driving across california, arizona, and new mexico in summer weather. Anyone know if the trucks are at least air-conditioned? I'm needing a little reassurance. Anyone ever ordered from them?

I've never ordered from them yet but am considering putting in an order soon. I read on their website that the main facility is in Ohio but because of the growth of customers they had to set up a few other places. But it also said that they that ship from the closest place to you so I'm not sure why they wouldn't just ship from Ohio.

Yeah, I swear I nearly had a heart attack when I found they were shipping from California. Maybe they just didn't have the right breeds near me. I did order 4 different breeds. 3 of which I'm pretty sure are rare. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that when they arrive they'll be ok. I'll post pics of them and let you know how they are when they arrive. I swear I'm on pins and needles. lol. I've been mapping their route and estimating where they are all day.

Yes. I did in 2012 for a May 3 delivery. I ordered 12 Khaki Campbells. They shipped 14 and 13 made to the post office alive and well. I assumed they came from Ohio. I was not aware that they ship from California. I also would be concerned about shipping them that far in this heat. You might try calling them. I found them to be quite helpful when I called them.

Good luck

I really hope they all make it ok. They only mailed them priority rather than express. The updates on the USPS site are really delayed. They shipped yesterday afternoon around 3 but it didn't get posted that they had until late this morning and I didn't get my text saying that they'd been shipped until 4 this afternoon.

Carcajou how long did it take for you to get your ducks? When did you get your call saying the post office had them? Was it very early/late or just typical hours like 9-5? I am so worried and want to take care of them as soon as possible. I swear I've been wishing I could just hop in the car and drive to where ever they are to snatch them off the truck and take care of them. Guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope I have no reason to cry

They should be o.k. if the hatchery didn't think they would all survive the trip they wouldn't ship them. I know some hatcheries won't ship to certain states during certain times due to extreme heat. Most people get the call early. I received both my calls at like 7 in the morning and the post office doesn't even open until 8. I had to go through a back door. Hope this helps some :)

Mine arrived within 36 hours. Got a call from the post office first thing in the morning. Bless you for being a caring soon-to-be owner of cute little ducklings. I will keep my fingers crossed for you

and pray there will be no reason for tears!

Thanks guys. Amiga, I'm really glad you said yours got there just fine since you are further east than I am.

It makes me feel much better so does Ducklover 87s information about not shipping to certain places at certain times. I've just read so many posts during the last two days about people saying they had some not survive, I've been internally freaking out. Carcajou thanks for the added prayers., You may laugh, but I swear that's present in pretty much all my prays. Even my ones over meals...not that I want to eat my ducks because I don't. I couldn't eat something I'd raised. But yeah, thanks for your guys' support. I really appreciate it.

My ducklings actually shipped early (long story, no one's fault), and I had just gotten up (lazy me) at 7 a.m. to the answering machine, "This is George at the xxx post office. Your chicks are here."

I had the brooder all set up, just needed some food. Drove down to pick up the babies, fell madly in love immediately, brought them home, gave them some lukewarm water, got the food, the rest is history.
