Anyone ever used a Little Giant?

The wafer thermostat must be replaced periodically in all the bators, unless you have an electronic thermostat. THe LG is smaller than the Hovabator. They are just styrofoam boxes with the same basic components, just different sizes and slightly different shapes. You can build one cheaper. THe sum of the parts in all styrobators are really nothing, making them all pretty overpriced.

The bator doesn't regulate humidity-you do, by adding water to the troughs in the bottom periodically.

Deb, you should read through all the posts on the two bators here. There are tons of threads.

I have one. Don't like it. Low percentage of survival. Humidity difficult to control. Plus when they hatch they get tangled up in the egg turners. And the egg holders easily fall off.

I think I'm going to use the heater and egg turner and mount them in a foam cooler
That way I can have space for them once they hatch so I can have an open area in the incubator so they don't get stuck under the egg turner apparatus.

Deb, Skip the LG!

: thumbsup I couldn't agree more!

See I keep hearing bad things about the hovabator......

I've got three 1588s and one 1590 which was the earlier version of it. I love them. I started out with a LG......fought it for a long time before it went into the trash. Wasted a lot of eggs with that piece of junk.

I have two LG's and one Hovabator and after many frustrated hatches, I caved and bought a Sportsman. If you're only hatching a couple dozen or less every now and then, they are ok. I liked the LG's better than the Hovabator, although I found the Hovabator easier to adjust. None of mine have a fan. The most frustrating parts for me were the temperature spikes (up to 107 on occasion) and trying to get the humidity just right. Also found no two thermometers/hygrometers are the same.

I also have egg turners for all of them and I remove them on day 18 and set the eggs in egg cartons, big end up, for hatching.

Remember this one?

Where are you seeing bad things about the hovabator? Everything I've seen
on the hovabator is people raving about it.. unless of course you have a cabinet bator.

It's pretty dry here and I've had no problems with it. You just keep the resevoir full.. unless you are going to be gone for days... it's pretty easy to keep an eye on it , they dont fluctate that fast as far as humidity goes.

I had an LG first and the hovabator is much better at keeping temp and humidity.
