Anyone experienced in Treating ducks with curled toes

What is the purpose of putting them in a sling?
Well keeping them off their legs, I understand you just put the sling at a height that their toes just touch the floor so they exercise by pushing.
But for curled toes I don't see a sling as necessary . Unless they have leg problems also?

One keeps putting his leg out behind him which surprised me since he was hoping around on that leg before I put the shoe on the foot with curled toes

Also I just noticed my other one “Edie” has an underdeveloped wing

It has been very hot here in redding With weird fluctuations in humidity and temperatures, so I wonder if that affected them
Moms stayed right on their nests

Right now I get them swim time five minutes at a time about four times a day and I manually take them out and hold them up and make them use their legs properly I don’t think Bedi will ever be able to extend his legs but he definitely is getting by a little bit better with the shoes on

Couldn’t upload video but they chase the worms in bathtub
