Anyone get boils? How do you treat them?

For the pain, try anbesol maximum strength - it's great for painful skin inflammation, mosquito bites, etc.

We used to get boils all the time as kids - from what we think was the neighborhodd pool. My brother once had one under his eye and went to a surgeon to have it lanced. Now he has a little scar that looks like a chicken pox. I remember the pain to this day!!!

Oh boy you have so got to post a pic.... this could be the start of a new patient for Wynette and I.... we love boils, cysts and anything gory!.... hang on will give Wyn a shout...

WYNETTE!!!!! get out of the sluce room, we got a new patient...

My Dh gets them on his back the size of a golf ball.I have tried lots of things to draw them out. The one that works the best is Sugar. Now his is large mind you but this is how I do it.
I take a panty liner and cut in half for the bandage and place a teaspoon of sugar in it and drop enough drops of water to make it a clump and turn over onto the boil and tape around the bandage. the next day I repeat it all .Once open I clean daily with peroxide and rebandage untill its gone. The sugar draws out the boil and then once open the Bacteria cannot grow in the sugar. It starts healing.

there are some interesting remedies. I honestly believe the best is warm moist compresses. Warmth helps dilate the pores so if it is a sebaceous cyst, it will come to a head and drain. Also, the warmth brings blood to the area through dilated capillaries and speeds healing. The antibiotics should help a lot too. Hope you feel better soon.

Well, yesterday morning I woke up at 4:30 in the morning with burning eyes, chills, and a sick stomach. So I called my doctor, and she said go to the ER. I wake my sister up to keep an eye on my kids because DH is working. I get to the ER around 5:30... the place is empty, only one or two patients in the whole place. They take me right in, and I think this is awesome, I will be done in no time at all.....

Well the doctor sees me, and calls plastic surgery. I am at Memorial Hospital in Worcester. Plastic surgeons are doing rounds at sister hospital about 1 mile away. They will come between 8 to 9...okay not too long it is now 6:30 I can wait. Well 10:00 comes, no plastic surgeon. Finally ER doctor says the wont be here to at least noon, so you can wait for threm or she can do it now. At this point I have been sitting in this little room all by myself, no books, no tv, no one to talk to. I already read the newspaper hours ago....I am at the point where if the give me a needle I will do it myself! I tell her I don't want to wait anymore, so please do it now. Well they are busy so she says she'll be right back. She comes back after 11:00, I am going crazy now. (She was very nice, and I don't blame her at all).

She numbs it, and starts working.....OUCH, that hurts so much, it is like someone is sticking a red hot poker in my skin and digging around in there. She numbs it some more, it still hurts, she numbs it again...it still hurts but not as much. It is a bearable pain.

She is finally done... I am driving home and the whole left side of my face is burning. I go home take tylenol, and the pain finally starts going away. Day from HELL!!! I was there until around 12:00. Six and a half hours for a boil! Or excuse me the real word is Subaceaus Cyst. Now I have a big bandage on my face until Monday when she tells me I should still go see the plastic surgeon to make sure she got it all out. She better have gotten it all out, because I don't want to ever go through this again. I had three kids naturally, and I do not remember it hurting this much.

Sorry Linda, no pictures...my almost two year old threw my camera in the pool the other day, and I don't have another one. Waiting for it to dry out and see if it will work still. What a week, is all I can say!

i feel your pain. i had a massive boil once from a reaction to some medication. in an, um, somewhat embarrassing place that made sitting down extremely difficult and painful. it caused a few other nasty complications too that i had best not go in to
hmm.png
antibiotics and painkillers and some undignified lancing from the doctor cleared it all up eventually...
