Anyone going to have eggs hatch in novemeber?

It's day 16 and I'm down to 4 eggs from my original 10. They are all Blue/Black/Splash Orpintons. (None of the Lavender Orpington eggs were fertile) Of the 4 in there I'm sure I have movement in 2 of them. It was so exciting the first time I could see movement! Lockdown in 2 days. Regardless of the outcome this has been a great project for my son and I to work on together. Thanks for all of the encouragement!

Typically I used a 25 watt bulb for in a home made incubator. Anything bigger i found I'd cook the eggs. but it also depends on the size of the incubator temperature of room its in. I kept mine in a 60 degree room.
It is a must to keep the lid closed during lock down because you need to raise the humidity for lock down.
How big was your incubator? Using a rather small rolling cooler i found even 60w was not able to recover the temp as quick as i would have liked it to. 5 minutes to recover from a 5 degree drop from turning.

I used a large cooler. And it only took 5 minutes or so to return to normal temp. But if i open my regular incubator it has same thing 5 minutes to return to normal temp. Mine however had way more then a 5 degree temp drop more like 20 degree temp drop.
are you using a fan or still air? I noticed adding a fan in made the temperature rise faster in the incubator. I'd turn the fan off from the outside before opening then once closed turn it back on. I had it blowing on the lightbulb so it spread the heat everywhere quickly.

I am afraid I just saw the red ring of death for the first time...

It's the youngest of all of the eggs, so I'm going to leave it with her. It is day 9 for that one. 2 days ago, I saw movement...

On a brighter note, the rest of the 11 eggs are all doing well. We are on day 12-13 on Prim's eggs and we can see the embryo looking like an actual baby chick!

Is ther esuch thing as "lockdown" when you have the eggs under a broody hen?

Your broody knows what to do they do their own lock down. last 2 or 3 days before the chicks hatch she'll refuse to move.

Both of mine are forced air. The cooler-bator was using a 60w read heat bulb. Wow 20 degree drop?!? Even opening the door on the big incubator to turn eggs i was only losing 5*... I built a cable and pully system to i can tilt the shelf itself from outside the ultra bator. Temporary fix untill i make the next upgrades :)

lol you are no help at all

egging me on to buy more !!!
You definately need more eggs. Hatching is not something to give up on. Last year we did X-mas chicks. It was also my first time hatching. It was the very best thing I think I've ever gotten for X-mas other than my hubby (we got married on Christmas).

I think I put my into lockdown too early. I marked the eggs 10/28... So hatch day should have been the 18th but this morning they pipped. That or I had slightly lower temps. Eggs from last weekend which were in the same bator came 1 and 2 days early so last night I was a little worried. But hopefully I'll go home to find some out. I have 2 for today and 6 for tomorrow ( adjusting for the extra day they seem to be taking.)
