Anyone going to have eggs hatch in novemeber?

I find with my really dark eggs or blue ones I can't see movement I just see air pocket and keep incubating til at least day 23 then if I'm worried I'll poke a hole in the air pocket end to see what is going on.

i'm leaving them in til friday unless they start exploding. Yes i've had one explode in the past. I refused to give up on it and on day 30 it blew up. And yes they blow up, egg shell everywhere. LOL Scared me half to death.
Anyway I'm giving them til day 25 then they are going to get candled, if no movement at that point they'll make a trip to the garbage can.

Question to all you hatch addicts ... I normaly hatch with a broody hen but set 40 eggs today in an incubator with my friend for the FIRST time!!! its' a little giant 9200... anyone have experience with this particular one? Kim purchased the egg turner and we have a thermometer set up in there but no hydrometer... I've heard mixed reviews on what the humidity is needing to be set at for which times in order to have a successful hatch...These are olive egger and coppper marans ... please HELP!!! Any advice is welcome!!

I've got babies!!!!

This was my first hatch and they came the day before I was expecting them. They are blue/black/splash Orpintons and they are adorable! Now we're just waiting for the Hatch-Along!

I'm with Nicole (chefs wifey). We set 40 eggs today, nov 25. They should hatch dec 16. First time doing this and we posted a question on page 29 about humidity. Anybody know what recommended rate is? We are using a little giant incubator with egg turner.

I add water if my humidity gets 35% or lower in my LG. It goes up to 50% for a day or so then evens out around 42%. At day 18 I jack the humidity up to 65% and I usually get a pretty good hatch.
Chefswifey- If you can't get a hygrometer just keep the bottom trays filled with warm water days 1-17. On day 18 make sure both trays are filled and add two (new!) sponges beneath the air vents and soak them with warm water. I usually need to add water to the sponges once a day. The great thing about having the sponges located beneath the air vents is you DON'T have to open the incubator!
This time around I had bought eggs locally for some purebred Ameraucanas and 7 out of the 12 have needed to be tossed. 5 had the red ring of death and 2 were clear. I set 24 of my own eggs and only needed to toss one clear so it is obviously not something I'm doing wrong! I'm definitely going to send the lady an e-mail after I see the percentage of hatch I get compared to hers. I wish people would realize the treatment of their eggs prior to hatching is just as important as keeping a proper temp and humidity while incubating! Grrrrr, sorry for the rant.

I have 3 chicks!!!

Of my 5 eggs that made it to lockdown, 2 hatched last night and one started pipping late last night - was out by this morning. One is still in the incubator - it hasn't even pipped yet - and one died after pipping... I guess it suffocated in the shell? Don't know what happened there I just saw that it wasn't moving hours after it started pipping (was first to pip) and opened it up, poor thing was dead

Now the really sad thing is that it was the only girl (they are sex link so I can tell). The 3 that are well are boys.

I am going to finish my new incubator soon, so will start collecting eggs for hatching around tomorrow, or maybe wait a little because I gave away all my "for eating" eggs this weekend to a friend, so will have to gather stock first!

This has been so exciting and I am definitely HOOKED! (My first hatch ever)

Just a summary of how things went: Originally set 9 eggs, of which 3 were infertile and one broken on day 3 out of my own stupidity

5 made it to lockdown, of which 1 died in the shell after pipping, and 3 hatched successfully. 1 to go.
So so far I have a 33.3% hatch rate out of eggs originally set, and a 60% out of eggs that made it to lockdown... Not bad for a first timer with a light-bulb heated box-o-bator!
