Anyone going to have eggs hatch in novemeber?

Besides an expirement for the kids and I we wanted to identify certain chicks hatched from certain eggs. If you want details on how we did it please let me know. We took pictures of the process. :)
An update: The chick is still alive and doing well! He has made some progress, not a complete zip though which would make me happier. I'll try to post a picture in a little bit. We have several other pips as well, some of these guys are pretty vocal! I love talking to them and hearing them peep back.

I would love knowing the details! This is something that sounds interesting to do with my daughter. My son is barely 1 1/2 so I don't think he would learn much from it :)
 
I pulled it out. I guess i should have taken a pic to show you but I didn't want a memory of it. :( The chick was alive but deformed. It's legs were up high on the back sticking out to the sides, stomach way bigger then it should have been on a tiny chick. Like maybe the size of two yokes put together. and it's neck/head wouldn't go straight.
I rang it's neck as I do not want it to slowly suffer to death like that. :( I hate to have to do that but in this situation I know I did the right thing. The other one had no more movement and I chose not to take it out of the egg because I didn't want to see more deformities.
I do know that damaged embro's can become deformed like this :( that is probably why it was a 0 hatch. The damage caused deformities.

Kayla Jr. Black and white chick dyed pink. Obviously it doesn't work as well on black chicks. :) I didn't know she would turn out so dark or I may not have bothered. Love her though!

Sadness and disappointment at the TMN farm tonight...

1 of Butterscotch's eggs had pipped. I broke down and candled the other 5... All dead...

I opened them and all I had was egg soup...


I picked up the one that had pipped and chipped away a tiny bit of shell to check on it. The membrane was dry, so I moistened it a bit with water on the tip of my finger. When I put the egg back with Butterscitch, she stepped on it and crushed the shell!! I let it be for a bit while I did barn chores, but I couldn't help but check on it again. The chick seemed to be in distress. The shell was falling off all over, so I made sure the membrane was moist and helped to peel it off of her a bit. When I tried to put her back with Butterscotch, she attacked it! She was going to kill it! I took it away from her and offered it to Prim. She pushed it around a bit with her beak, then settled herself over the top of it. When I left them, the chick was still alive and breathing, but I'm not holding out too much hope of it pulling through...

So, this being my first time... Does the fact that 100% of Prim's eggs hatched and only 1 of Butterscotch's mean that Butterscotch didn't keep them as warm as she should have? We did catch her off of her nest a few times. They were all eggs from the same flock, so I can't believe that it was just luck of the draw... I know I probably jumped the gun in helping this little chick out. I probably should have never picked it up when I saw it had pipped, but I so wanted to make sure it was ok...

Then after the hen stepped on it and crushed it... Maybe I should have left it alone then, but I just couldn't... At this point, I figure I've done enough damage. I'm leaving it up to Prim.. If she can save the chick, she will... If it's too late, then it's too late... So sad...
