Anyone going to have eggs hatch in novemeber?

Well, this afternoon is day 21. but so far no peeping or tapping or anything yet..... sigh. Had a dog attack yesterday, so guess I'll put on my yard clothes and go clean up the dead bodies ;-(
So sorry about the dog attack...

Today is day 12 for me, just past the halfway mark! I candled last night and the 5 left in my box-o-bator are developing well! Saw definite movement in 3 of the eggs and the other 2 are definitely developing, just not so sure if I see movement or not... The flashlights I use to candle are not very bright so sometimes it's hard to see what's going on in there... Lockdown for me is 22 November, but I have a question about that... Since I control the temperature in my cardboard box by moving the lid (more open to lower temp or closed to raise it), how do I keep the box closed for lockdown? Is it necessary? I will be frying them if I keep the box closed and I'm unable to find a dimmer for the light... I'm currently using a 100watt light bulb, maybe a lower-wattage bulb?

I'm worried... I candled all of them again last night, this time with a notebook so I could record what I saw. There were only a handful that I saw definite movement... Prim was once again in the wrong nest, and her egg #4 was cold... Butterscotch had taken over all of her other eggs so they were warm when I got in there, but I don't know how long she was off of them, or if Butterscotch stole them right out from under her. Prim's eggs are at day 11 for 5 of them and 10 for one of them. None of them are "empty" but I only saw real solid movement in 1. 3 of them (including #4), I saw nothing, and two of them, I thought maybe there was movement, but I wasn't sure that it wasn't my eyes playing tricks on me from staring at glowing eggs in the dark...

Butterscotch's eggs are only at day 9 and 7. There is develpoment in all of them, but only saw movement in 2... This is my first time, so I really don't know exactly what I am looking for determining if they have quit...

Would it be traumatic for the hens if I moved them out of the coop into my heated kennel building and gave them nests in separate brooder boxes at this point?? It is regularly below freezing at night, although the water in the coop isn't freezing. I'm even considering taking the eggs from them and putting them into an incubator... I'm going to be really sad if I lose all of these eggs... When I started this whole thing, I thought, "What do I have to lose by letting them sit on a few eggs??" Apparently, the answer to that question is... My mind!!

I wouldn't close the lid for a lockdown. I'm doing almost the same thing and did it the same way with turkey eggs several years ago. I have a 60 watt bulb in a heat light but still check and adjust frequently. I wouldn't necessarily do a 'lockdown', more of a 'no more touching or messing with them'. Lockdown is more or less if you're using a temp control incubator, etc.

lol- very true! You may have started counting days too early. Hens will lay a clutch of eggs so the day the egg is laid isn't exactly going to be the first day of incubation. The embryos won't actually start to develop until the hen has decided her clutch is ready for setting. If your hen is on and off, she may not be think she has enough yet. Embryos will halt/ delay development if the temp is too low or too high and pick back up where they left off when the temp is just right again. Nature knows best: I'm losing my mind on DAY 28! I know, I know, right? I haven't said lights out because the eggs are moving and I hear scratching/ tapping. Everyone here tells me I'm heating duds but they are moving in there. The tapping is louder today so I think we're getting close to hatching....

Typically I used a 25 watt bulb for in a home made incubator. Anything bigger i found I'd cook the eggs. but it also depends on the size of the incubator temperature of room its in. I kept mine in a 60 degree room.
It is a must to keep the lid closed during lock down because you need to raise the humidity for lock down.
