Anyone had problems with vaccinating their children?

Ok, first of all I want to say please be nice. I realize this is a very personal issue and I don't want to upset anyone. I have 2 kids, my first son had all his vaccines when he was supposed to and I never had any problems. My youngest son is due for is 1 year vaccines next month. He has had a difficult time after each batch of vaccines up to this point, very high fever, wouldn't stop crying for 12 hours, etc. I have been doing some reading online about vaccines. I am really torn about having him get the vaccines next month. I know there is no study that says vaccines cause autism or any other problem but I have heard stories. What I am looking for is if anyone has a personal expierence, like your child, grandchild, niece, nephew or a child you know personally. Not one of those my neighbor's cousin's husband's kid had this happen. And I understand the reasons for getting your child vaccinated. I don't want to be attacked because I am looking into skipping my son's vaccines. Like I said I have been vaccinating my kids up to this point. If anyone wants to share and doesn't want it in the thread please feel free to PM me.

I have actually read more reports that they do NOT cause autism, recently too. My son had a BAD reaction to his first MMR vaccine. He developed Roseola, a form a german measles. He had a 105 temp that scared the crap outta me. I was informed that he should not have the boosters. I always had waivers for school. My mother took him to register at a new school for 6th grade and they had a vaccine clinic there. His yellow card did not have boosters, so what does she do? Has them give him his shot.

He did not have a reaction that time, but boy was I worried!

I think not providing vaccines to children is a very personal decision. Once informed of all sides of the issue, I am sure you can do what you feel is right for your child.

Have you spoken to your Pediatrician about a delayed vaccination schedule? I have friends who have done this. The practice of giving several vaccines at one time can be overwhelming for some children.

The delayed schedule is a compromise between full on vaccination and completely stopping.

You have to do whatever you feel is best for your child.

We had to spread his out after he had what, according to the handouts you get at the time of the vaccine are considered a severe reaction. I was honestly upset that the dr didn't seem to care more about the problems he had. I used to work in an animal hospital and we would get dogs or cats that had reactions. After that we would pretreat them with benadryl and watch them for at least an hour. I was not happy that the dr wasn't more concerned about it. I guess dr shopping is something I might need to do.

Thanks for the input.

As far as I'm aware the "vaccines = autism" scare happened because a lot of children are now being diagnosed as autistic around the same age as they are getting vaccines. Any data "proving" vaccines cause autism has been a correlation between the two factors, not all possible factors.
Vaccines can in rare instances cause a child severe health problems, but again, that is highly rare and is generally due to an ill reaction to the vaccine. I went to school with a girl who's older brother is sickly and ill all the time because of a bad vaccine.

I personally didn't get vaccinated for serious illnesses such as polio until I was in high school (they wouldn't let me graduate) because my mother contracted the illness we were vaccinated for.

Honestly, I would talk to your family doctor or a pediatrician about your son's previous reactions to vaccines. They are the medical professionals and will give you the best information. They may recommend having his vaccinations at a later date, or look at his overall health and skip them all together.
Another thing to keep in mind is that vaccines are either a dead virus or a severely weakened virus that is put into the system so your body knows how to fight it off. Reactions such as symptoms of the illness are somewhat common place, although a a high fever for any long amount of time is worrisome.

Good luck, and hopefully you, your son and your family stay healthy.

My daughter was hospitalized at 6 months old from a reaction to some part of the DTAP vaccine. She had seizures, a 106 fever, and vomiting/diarreah. Not to mention the regressions and delays in her motor skills that followed. She will never have another vaccine, I have already obtained all of the paperwork for an exemption for school.

I am due with another girl in July and no vaccines for her either. It's not a risk I will take with my babies. I fear the vaccines MUCH more than the diseases.

Some kids cannot handle the vaccines, that is why it is so important that all kids who can handle the vaccines receive them. That way the few kids who do have problems are protected via herd immunity.

There are alternate vaccines for some diseases, depending on if the problem lies in the carrier for the vaccine. I know people who are allergic to eggs have trouble with some vaccines.
