Anyone had problems with vaccinating their children?

I PERSONALLY A DON'T VACCINATE ANY MORE! My son who was my first born, had a reaction at around his 1yr shots. It was very severe diarrhea and diaper rash. He also had a fever. It was horrible, his diaper rash came first which was odd. It made him raw. Then days later came the diarrhea. My Dr still to this day doesn't think it was because of the shots. I disagree, he had no other way to get those severe symptoms. I have done ALOT of research on this topic. I chose to not vaccinate my second child at all. The fact is a mom knows first hand what she should do with her child! Please do not allow a Dr. to persuade your feelings another way. We were given the gift of "instincts" for a reason. Besides, most Dr. do not know anything other then what someone else has taught them, (med school, drug co. etc) or from the limited amt of patients they have had. They do not do the research themselves. I also personally know people who are in the Medical industry that do not vaccinate, because they don't believe in them. Besides the autism stuff, there are alot of other ingredients that go into a shot that are really not good for you, let alone a small baby. My advice is research it extensively, then if you are still unsure. You can always give them the shots later. But, you can never take them out once they go in!

Research is good.

Please, in doing the research, consider the source. There is a lot of 'junk science' out there talking about how vaccines are bad. Actually look for articles that have passed peer review, have citations, and if at all possible, actually read the studies.

My daughter has had two horrific reactions to tetnas (sp?) shots. One at 11 years and one at 23 years of age. Both involved swelling of the brain or encephalitis, bells palsy and pretty much bed ridden for a month or more. First time we had suspicions about the timing and the vaccine but the doctors flat out wouldn't consider the possibility. We trusted the doctors opinion. Second time, the timing seemed obvious to us but the doctors still wouldn't "go there". After 3 days in the hospital and multiple tests, he said it "maybe" could be the cause. Since then, she needed a series of vaccines for her choice of education at the university and a new doctor told her to never get a Tetnas vaccine again because the reaction could only get worse. He listened and felt strongly the reactions were very probably the cause of the vaccine. I don't know the answer for everyone but all I can say is be very careful. Each person reacts differently.

I think you meant that it IS a persaon decision

I also think you have terms mixed up. Roseola is completely unrelated to MMR, and there is no vaccine for it; virtually all young children get this very mild disease. Often the only symptom is the rash. The MMR vaccine is a live vaccine, so there is a chance of contracting the illnesses it vaccinates against. Measles is rubeola; German measles is rubella. It is likely that it is one of these that your son contracted. In general measles tends to be a much more severe illness than German measles; however German measles are very likely to cause miscarriage or deformities in the fetus of a pregnant woman who contracts the disease.

I would be LIVID if a school nurse vaccinated my child for ANYTHING without my permission. Goodness knows when I choose to vacinate my child at his DOCTOR's office, I must SIGN a consent form for EACH vaccine. If three vaccinations are given on the same day, I must sign THREE consent forms that specify the exact vaccine, the manufacturer and specific batch of vaccine, an acknowledgement of common side effects and serious side effects.

If you have a good pediatrician, have this discussion with him/her. A good doctor will tell you the risks for the vaccine as well as the risks for NOT having it. A question I have asked our pediatrician is "what do you do for your own kids." Based upon his advice, youngest son did not have the silver drops in his eyes (he said they were necessary for a vaginal birth, but not for a c-section where the baby never entered the birth canal) and he has not been given the hepatitis vaccination.

Personal experience and anecdotal evidence are the worst types of "evidence". Correlation does NOT imply causation. Secondly, vaccines DO NOT cause autism. Vaccinces may cause mild reactions, but severe reactions are more rare, but, yes, they can happen. Keep in mind that not vaccinating is not just a personal choice, your decisions can affect others.

I agree with Frog- do the research. Confirm the source is reputable, confirm the research has been peer reviewed, and discuss with your pediatritian- don't base possible life altering decisions on personal opinion.

My oldest and youngest had no problems with vacs.
Middle child had his 4 mo shots and 24 hours later was in ICU with Spinal Meningitis.

The docs would never say that there was a correlation but I have my suspicions.

When youngest was born, it was a real struggle for me to take her to get her vacs. I made DH go with me cause I was so worried that it would happen again
