Anyone had problems with vaccinating their children?

This is now a big no-no. Something about how the motrin or tylenol can lower the immune response to the vax.

A question for hte peiatrician. Mine has always recommended that one or the other be given as soon as we get home for pain or fever after vaccination. I've never asked about before, but I cannot see how the showrt time difference of before or after would make a difference.

Both my children have had all recommended vaccines. My youngest spiked a fever after the flu shot but nothing with the other vaccines.

I do believe we have the ethical responsiblity to vaccinate our children to protect them and those children who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.

Serious reactions to vaccines are rare. Anyone can have a reaction to anything - foods, pollen, etc - also rare but possible. I do believe that vaccines are safe.

A word about Hep B. Hepatitis B is spread by bodily fluids which most of us think of as sexual activity. In years before the strict safety practices(universal precautions) the most common accidental infection in laboratory workers was Hep B - (and it was not through sexual activity). Hep B has been shown to be much more contagious than HIV(which is spread the same way). I worry about small children in daycare and schools - we all know what their hygiene is like. Hep B is a very serious disease and can be deadly - our world is better without it and I will definitely protect my kids by vaccination.

I agree..
And also about Hep B... i saw a study once where they said that the virus can LIVE on surfaces outside of the body for quite a while.... It dosent just die when it hits air...
Scary stuff...

I am so glad to see someone else mention this. My chiro told me that they also will "water" them down, it means another trip to finish the vaccine, but its so much toxins being pumped in their little bodies its a terrific shock to their systems. My 5 week old GD just had her first batch today, and no matter how many times I mention the "watering" down practice, mom doesn't listen. My son is an LPN and he KNOWS the danger of these shots. I have an autistic daughter, and while I believe there was an issue at birth, just that mother's instinct, she still had a horrific reaction to her shots, so I think some people are just more sensitive than others.

I also think you have terms mixed up. Roseola is completely unrelated to MMR, and there is no vaccine for it; virtually all young children get this very mild disease. Often the only symptom is the rash. The MMR vaccine is a live vaccine, so there is a chance of contracting the illnesses it vaccinates against. Measles is rubeola; German measles is rubella. It is likely that it is one of these that your son contracted. In general measles tends to be a much more severe illness than German measles; however German measles are very likely to cause miscarriage or deformities in the fetus of a pregnant woman who contracts the disease.

I would be LIVID if a school nurse vaccinated my child for ANYTHING without my permission. Goodness knows when I choose to vacinate my child at his DOCTOR's office, I must SIGN a consent form for EACH vaccine. If three vaccinations are given on the same day, I must sign THREE consent forms that specify the exact vaccine, the manufacturer and specific batch of vaccine, an acknowledgement of common side effects and serious side effects.

see that's funny. I would be livid if I miscarried or my baby was born with deformities because I was exposed to a child that had contracted German measles because they hadnt been vaccinated for it.
My sister is a Elementary school teacher, in a public school. When she was pregnant she was very nervous that a child would bring something besides the sniffles to class. And rightfully so. During her pregnancy there was an out break of mumps. There has been no link to the vaccines to autism. I prefer to vaccinate myself, my child and my pets. I stops the spread of disease. Fact pure and simple. No numbers needed.

Well, let's see, all the school nurse knew was that no previous vaccines were recorded on school records--perhaps the child has a condition or has had a previous reaction that makes giving the vaccine a serious risk to the child's health? (as was the case with the child originally mentioned!)
There is a reason that it is not legal to perform medical procedures on a child not your own without the parent or guardian's expressed consent. This is far beyond the issue of whether it is right or wrong to vaccinate as a general rule. This has nothing to do with autism or any other sort of possible concerns. It has to do with #1) the health risks to the particular child and #2) to a parent's right to rear their children as they feel best and appropriate.

Well see that is the thing. If you had gotten german measles as a child you would have lifetime immunity. Something vaccines don't offer. You acknowledged that fact since you would be worried about catching it. If vaccines provided lifetime immunity you wouldn't be worried about catching it.

German measles is nasty. I know at least three people are deaf due to in utero exposure. There was a serious outbreak in the US from 1963-1966. All the natural immunity advocates don't seem to realized that even when epidemics go through, not everyone gets the virus, and often natural immunity is not permanent. This leaves a virgin population for the next round. If natural immunity stopped epidemics, we wouldn't even have the word for epidemic. Personally, there are a lot of diseases that the risk of serious consequences is much higher with the disease than the vaccine. Do you really want to risk your kids having a "natural" immunity to polio?

The MMR vaccine was developed in 1971, so those mothers of the deaf kids had been children before the vaccine. They were possibly exposed, but did not catch rubella until pregnant.

Just tell your doc you would rather have a weekly schedule of a shot a week instead of all at once. They will probably give you a bunch of garbage about it but stand firm, your kid your choice. They will have to special order the shots as well but if you are willing to wait it is a minor setback.

The shots given are either killed or attenuated pathogens; they are in no way the full strength of the pathogen.

Scarlet Fever is a very severe form of strep throat, anybody can still get it.

Good luck, information is your best friend in this case and I would be doing as much research as possible to back up your choices.

The only "problem" I have had with vaccinating is annoying docs that see their mission to SAVE my children from their ill-informed, crazy mothers! (me)
I use common sense when it comes to vaccinating- NEVER more than 3 antigens at a time and only for the biggies- MMR, tetanus, whooping cough. The minor piddly diseases I don't bother with.

I have a GREAT pediatrician now that is very respectful and HONEST- she has said to me, " What you are doing is fine and it shows you study health decisions for your children."

One time I had to use a different ped- I took my son in for a bad virus and the doctor wanted to vaccinate him for flu (WITH A 102 FEVER)

AND.... wanted me to make an appointment to CIRCUMCISE HIM. He was FIVE and we were there for a virus.

Stay strong- I know it is tough. But sitck to YOUR gut. They are YOUR babies.
