Anyone hatching April 5-7 or so? ALL DONE, READY TO BE LOCKED

My pro chicken friends said it should be fine, but I was wondering the same thing!! I will have the humidity set around 60% for the lockdown, a good in between for both sets. They are only 5 days apart, I guess we will see!

Hatch date 4/6. I originally set 9 Silkie eggs in my Brinsea Mini Advance EX. We discarded one white silkie egg yesterday, day 7 as it showed itself to be infertile...never had any veins or any sign of an embryo...clear egg. I finished candling all eggs this morning. One is iffy. It was later than the others to show veins and now it has some veins (not many) with a darkish blob which shows no movement at all and no dark eye spot at day 8.

Can anyone advise as to which day (if things don't change) to discard this egg? I don't want to take any chance of it blowing up. The other 7 eggs are 1 white silkie and 6 red silkies, all with lively embryos swimming around. They are so cute, doing somersaults and being very lively.

Also, just to keep everyone up to date, we weighed all eggs on day 7 and as a total group (including the infertile egg we discarded) the weight loss was 4%. This is about where I estimated they should be at this point, 1/3 of the way through the incubation. I am keeping the humidity at 45-55%. The temp is usually 99.4F. These are being auto turned except for 2 eggs I have to hand turn because the hatchery sent me 2 extra eggs and my incubator only takes 7 eggs in the auto turner. The one extra egg (I had to discard one) keeps one of the 7 eggs from turning properly so I have to hand turn that one as well.

These are shipped eggs which looked to be in good shape upon arrival. I love reading all your posts and I'll keep everyone up to date on my end.

I have 3 duck eggs going on lockdown on the 7th! It's my first try at incubating and it seems like I have to wait forever.

. I have mostly EEs in there, those are my favorite. I believe there are about a 10-12 eggs in there.

I'm using a Hova Bator Genesis and trying out this dry incubation. My humidity is at about 30%-40% and I plan to raise that to 50%ish during lockdown. I got a little ancy and candled some and I already see two developing!! This will be my second hatch, I'm hoping it'll go a bit better than my last now that I have an auto-turner and am more educated on humidity!!

I really would like to know the answer to this, I asked it a page ago. I don't know when to discard my eggs that don't seem to be growing, especially because I want room to put my hygrometer in there. BUT, I don't want to chance throwing away a live egg. Thanks for any guidance!!

I'm no expert but if I can clearly determine that there's nothing going on in an egg I would remove it by day 14, certainly before lockdown. If I see a blood ring it gets removed immediately. Most of the eggs that I didn't see development in ended up being scrambled eggs, that is, the yolk membrane had ruptured and mixed with the white. This happens, I think, mostly from rough handling/shaking during shipping. When you remove the egg it is usually helpful to do an eggtopsy so you can see what the inside of the egg looks like compared to what you were able to see on candling. Make sure, though, that if it might have bacteria, that you are somewhere that won't get contaminated by opening the egg.

But, if you saw some veins I'd keep it and check on it every couple of days. It could be that some of the development is deeper on the inside of the egg and not easily seen. Veins are a good sign!!

We candled today. its the 7th day. My 3 and 4 year old got to see the embryos floating around in there. Afterwards the 3yo said, "that was really fun dad" Im glad I did it. Right now I have 12 barred rocks, 9 EE and 9 buff Orps.
