Anyone hatching April 5-7 or so? ALL DONE, READY TO BE LOCKED

I usually take them out quickly when they are mostly dry. They do dry faster under the brooder lamp, 'tis true, though some would slap my hands for removing them. I've always done it and as long as you locate her and snatch her out quickly, it shouldn't hurt your humidity.

That's cool, I thought they couldn't lay eggs when they were brooding. Chickens always surprise me! thumbsup That last egg probably won't make it to hatch under her though. Once her babies hatch she'll leave the nest to take care of them, the remaining egg will be abandoned. Maybe you could grab it before she leaves the nest and pop it in the incubator.

I hate it when that happens so on several occasions I have finished hatching them by keeping them next to my body until they hatch. If I hear them chirping in the shell I can't stand for them to die at that stage. Then I end up with spoiled babies, such as the silkie with me now who has been my constant companion for over 5 months.

I found this thread a little late but I didn't know exactly when my eggs were due to hatch. I set nine eggs under a broody silkie that are due on 4-17 and brought another broody silkie in my bedroom about a week ago. Yesterday morning the first one hatched and there are now 6 adorable little chicks and 3 eggs not yet hatched. I've been candling with a $2.00 flashlight which doesn't work too badly. Of the three eggs not hatched one is chirping like crazy and one looks like it might have died as it wasn't moving last I looked...maybe asleep? The third egg I just don't know about.

Can anyone tell me why some eggs don't make it all the way? Did I handle them too much trying to see what was going on?

So, we have friends coming over today to see the hatching activities. Had to move the bator to a good location for everyone to see. And, my DS, whom I love with all my heart, really

, saw that the electrical cord was under the bator when I set it down. What does he do you ask? He proceeds to lift up one end of the incubator about 8 inches off the floor.

all the eggs rolled fast right to one end. Next, my eyes are closed, focused on breathing and I'm chanting, "I love my son, I love my son more than chicks, I love my son, I really do love my son..."

No really, I do love him.

He was at least as upset as I was. Anyway, I had to open up the incubator to reposition the eggs. We have 2 pips now. Sigh, I hope none of them got hurt.
