Hi,, I had some due on the 24th.. To my great surprise : I took them out of the turner yesterday (21st) and got them all nestled on paper towels. I ran back and forth making sure the temp and humidity was leveling out right and thought I heard peeping sounds.. (thought I was going nuts and imagining things as they weren't due for 3 days)
Well then I saw eggs moving and louder peeping sounds.. I still was not looking for pips ... about 4 or 5 last night I noticed pips.. in 5 of the eggs.. not just one.. HUH.. I have 7 little chicks today , the 8th egg did not pip with the rest and wondering minds had to know why and help. Poor little thing was never coming out.. he had very little upper beak and his head was totally misformed.. But all 10 eggs I put in were fertile, one stopped growing after the first candling... the second removed at 14 days becuase of a crack in the shell and heres a pic of 6 of my surprize chicks (minus the no beak guy)

Awww... big {{{{hug}}}} to you. The last time 2 of my girls went broody, none of the babies hatched. Then my girl now started laying again for a couple of weeks and went broody again. This time were getting 8/8 out of what was left of the 10 under her. One didn't form, and the other got crushed by another chicken trying to lay in the same box about 3-4 days ago. The bird would have been so cute.

Surprise, surprise! My batch of 13 was due to hatch tomorrow, but I just came downstairs to hear a loud peeping and sure enough - one completely out and over the past few minutes another one finished hatching as well. The others are pipping!

I had planned on getting the brooder ready tonight, but I guess I'd better move that up a bit!

OK stop it its not the 23rd yet I have been to my bator 30x this morning now Because everybody is hatching already looking for movement or pips.

but congrats anyway better get pics up!!!

Here is mama and 4 of the babies. They are getting bold. I took them out of the nest box and put them outside on the ground. The coop is off the ground and i didn't think the babies would be able to get back up the stairs if they got out of the coop somehow. It's been interesting how the other 7 chickens have responded to the babies. I've been letting mama shoo the others away and actually just locked the others out of the run so mama and babies could adjust a little. So far I think most are eating but none are drinking yet. I'll be keeping an eye on them.
