Anyone hatching Dec 14th? Looking for hatching buddies for 1st hatch!

Just a quick update on my chicks that hatched yesterday (and early this morning)

Out of the 9 eggs, 8 hatched. I checked the other one to see if the chick was alive and I couldn't see any movement. I cracked it open near the air cell to see what I could see and there was nothing but yolk near the air cell. It was weird because I knew I saw a chick moving in there around day 17. I cracked it all the way and sure enough there was a fully formed chick. There was also a yolk that was larger than the entire chick. I think it was a double yolk egg and only one yolk had a fertile embryo. Sadly for this guy, the yolk that wasn't fertile blocked it from getting to the air sac. I did take photos but they are gruesome so I won't post em.

Onto the happy part of the hatch - I have 8 fuzzy butts this morning. 8/9 is a pretty good hatch so I am very happy. I had one with a protruding bloody knob where the umbilical cord was, but it dried out and is looking normal this morning. Here is a photo of the fuzzy butts:

I have a question....and I am sure one of you can answer this for me....of the 4 eggs that are not doing anything, 2 are rather clear with a very present ring (not red, but a ring) and the other 2 have large, dark, cloudy masses in them. There has been no changes at all in any of these 4 eggs. My guess would be that the eggs that are clear with rings are just not fertile and the 2 with the dark cloudy spots are old....although I am a newbie and really have no idea. Does anyone know for sure?

I like your philosophy. I read through our CC&Rs (the set of rules for our community) and it says that we can't keep agricultural animals like horses, goats and cows... chickens are not named specifically. It also says that pets can be kept as long as they aren't a bother to the neighbors. A friend of mine called the city and they have no restrictions at all. . So my chickens are pets!

And I plan to buy my neighbors over by sharing eggs with them.

I'm also building a super cute coop so it won't be an eyesore to anyone.

I had a few that looked like that the last time I incubated. I left them in until day 15 or 16 to give them every chance to develop. By then I was sure there was nothing and I took them out, cracked them open and found... well I won't tell you what it looked like, but there definately were no developing chicks. I think you'd be safe to take them out.

Can i join ? I have 4 Button eggs in the bator... I havent had any luck with the last two tries so lets hope threes the charm.. they are set to hatch on the 15th...
