Just a quick update on my chicks that hatched yesterday (and early this morning)
Out of the 9 eggs, 8 hatched. I checked the other one to see if the chick was alive and I couldn't see any movement. I cracked it open near the air cell to see what I could see and there was nothing but yolk near the air cell. It was weird because I knew I saw a chick moving in there around day 17. I cracked it all the way and sure enough there was a fully formed chick. There was also a yolk that was larger than the entire chick. I think it was a double yolk egg and only one yolk had a fertile embryo. Sadly for this guy, the yolk that wasn't fertile blocked it from getting to the air sac. I did take photos but they are gruesome so I won't post em.
Onto the happy part of the hatch - I have 8 fuzzy butts this morning. 8/9 is a pretty good hatch so I am very happy. I had one with a protruding bloody knob where the umbilical cord was, but it dried out and is looking normal this morning. Here is a photo of the fuzzy butts:
