I'm really excited!!!!

My little hen escaped the run and was taken away by a cat. She didn't have her roo's to defend her and she was only the size of a robin. It was my fault. I didn't clip her wings because one of the big roos was always after her and I wanted her to be able to get away from him when she needed. Well, that bit me in the butt and I lost my beautiful little hen. It was a hard lesson learned. So I immediately put all of ther eggs that I had in the bator.

I just checked, and I'm hatching the 14th! Fourteen bantam Cochin eggs, and 18 Seramas, all from my own birds. Since Seramas take two days less (in theory) to hatch, I set the Cochins two days ahead. I do this once a week, and I candle when I need more room in the bator. As it is, I have over half a dozen eggs stacked on top of others in my turner! The eggs are slowing down, though, so it'd be nice if one of the hens would make themselves usefull and go broody!

I have 24 RIR/Brown Leghorn eggs in the incubator now due to hatch on the 13th of dec. so count me in as a hatch buddy> Good luck to everyone this will be my second hatching.

I have 16 Mille Fleur D'Uccle and 12 EE eggs in the incubator. I set them right before midnight on the 22nd so I am expecting a Dec 13th-14th hatch day. I already candled a few of them and every one I checked was fertile.

I also have some coming out of the other bator soon (should be tomorrow)

Eggcellent....I love your signature!! I am totally addicted!! This started as a way to educate my kids, and now I am already planning what will go in the incubator next! Evidently this city girl has a country girl inside screaming to get out.

I have already told my hubby we need to move so I can accommodate our growing family.

Lol - I thought of my signature after looking at new2chooks signature. Something like "Hi I'm Kelly and I have....."

I'll tell you what... We just moved to our 5 acre mini farm and the farmer has really come out in the whole family. I could never live in the city again. I always kind of longed to get out into the country but I never realized how liberating and positive it would be.

I have 2 out of 9 of my eggs on lockdown that just pipped! Should have some fuzzy bottoms tomorrow when I wake up.

I candled all 28 eggs in the other incubator today (day 5) and had good growth on all but 1 (blood ring)

Here is a photo of what one of my eggs looked like today if anyone without candling experience is wondering what to look for.

The dark spot in the middle is the actual embryo and you can see veins coming out to make it look almost like a spider. In general, any veins you see are a good sign. This is a teeny tiny mille fleur D'Uccle egg so the embryo looks huge. In a standard size egg it would look smaller. (At least mine do)

I just use a 9 LED mini flashlight to candle with. It works great even on darker eggs. I was able to see veining on day 3.
