Anyone hatching Dec 14th? Looking for hatching buddies for 1st hatch!

Hi all,

This is so exciting! I did it, I went ahead and ordered some Cockoo Marans eggs. The eggs look dark, so I hope that will be the case. (Thanks for the info, on getting the eggs. I did not know that you could wait until the incubator arrives.) I got a GQF Model 2365 + 1610 Auto Turner incubator. I needed the turner, because I don't trust myself to do this right.

One question, do you have to candle? And what day is the best? How many times?

I can't wait to join you guys!

Oh, one more thing. I only got 6 eggs. With the success rate at about %50, should I get more? Maybe 12 all together? And should I put them in the bator at once, or can you add?

Thanks!

you dont have to candle but it is better to candle. it tells you wich eggs are developing, wich eggs are duds, and wich eggs are rotten/getting rotten. its best to candle at day 5-8 to start with. but one time i candled every day from 1-18 and 3 out of 4 eggs hatched

I hope this helped!

I would also order 12 instead of 6 if the hatch rate is only 50%. and i would put all the eggs in the bator at once. but some people do add eggs later on but they will hatch differnt days if you do that.

Yes, they are VERY dark. I THINK I can see two small embryos, but it might just be my imagination. They are so stinkin dark...which I love...but it is near impossible to see anything. Of the 14 I have, 10 are on target as of today. The ones right no schedule are 1 GL, 1 SSH, 2 BO, 2 BLO, 2 EM, and hopefully 2 BCM. I will wait a little longer to make the official call on the other 4. So far so good!!

Eggcellent - grats on the peeper, I look forward to seeing the rest.

Welcome to everyone else as well!

Oh, i can not wait to see them! I wanted some when I ordered these!!!! As far as the candling goes, I have heard two very differend opinions. Some say leave them alone. I have also heard of people candling every day and hatching 100%. We are doing this first group for educational purposes. So I follow all instructions to the letter, take all the advice I can, and candle the eggs so the children can mark their progress. I do not have a turner so the eggs are handled a few times a day any way. So really, it is your call. If I am not able to hatch any maybe I will change my mind. LOL! But for now, I am candling.

I don't candle them every day but I do candle probably 10 times during the 21 days. I just like to see the development. I guess I am still new enough to this that I am still amazed by it

Three of my chicks are hatched now and 5/6 of the remaining have pipped. The only one that isn't pipped is the greenish egg.
