Anyone hatching Dec 14th? Looking for hatching buddies for 1st hatch!

Quote:
I had 4 scrambled, 6 not fertilized and 2 never started. I wiped 5 off with warm water around day 5 because the were covered in poop when I got them. They made the incubator smell so bad I started to think I had a bad egg. The smell went away but 3 of them quit. I had 2 blood rings on day 9. Then the 3 I need to check again. So I guess that means I really started with 20 (if you don't count the scrambled and non fertile eggs) that makes me feel better!

BEAUTIFUL eggs Eggcellent....remind me again what all you have please. I was looking back because I am sure you posted it....so sorry for the repeat. I am tired and I guess my eyes are crossing.

Here are the three of them. The one in the middle won't shut up. LOL

This one came out of an egg marked as a Barred Rock. I thought they were supposed to be black as chicks?

This one was also supposed to be a Barred Rock. It looks more like a Rhode Island Red to me.
There is one more pip. That egg is marked as a Rhode Island Red - who knows what it will be if it hatches.
This is so ridiculous 'cause the whole reason I did this hatch was because I'm trying to get a couple of Plymoth Barred Rock hens. I had trouble with the seller of these eggs as did a friend of mine. It really makes me want to give him bad publicity!!!

Murano Farms and Jessa-Lynn - sorry about your quitters/infertiles. I wonder if it's this time of year. I started with 20 and I only got 3 chicks, maybe one more on the way.

Eggcellent, those eggs are impressive. Do you know anything about the temperment of the EE's? My kids really want to get a couple of them.

CrazyGirl - aren't you almost at lockdown?

And yes....Going on lock down tomorrow. I put them in the bator LATE the first night. So I will turn them early in the morning and then have them set up and ready for LD by noon. They all look great, but I hope I get the humidity right. I did not get anything to read my humidity levels. So we are praying and

hoping we get it right. I am trying the egg carton hatch so I don't have to panic about them bowling or playing soccer with each other after they hatch. Please let this bee a good experience for the kids (and me)!!!!

Thanks for sharing the cute pics!!!!!

CrazyGirl-
Well, I definately won't be buying from this seller again! Fool me once, shame on him, fool me twice...
It sounds like you are well on your way to a house full of peeps. Get some sleep now! We had a big hatching party for our first hatch and had all our friends come over. It was so much fun! But after a couple of days I was exhauseted. If I do a hatch party again I would pre-cook and buy in plenty of easy snacks. Anyway, I'm excited for you.
As far as the humidity goes... you do have a hygrometer right?

Well, if you don't have a hygrometer you can go by how much condensation you're getting on the sides and widow of the bator, maybe. I have a home made incubator and when I have 35-50% humidity all is dry on the inside. When I get it up to 65-70% humidity there is condensation on the windows and some drips down the side walls when I open the lid.

I heard about the egg carton hatch too. Let me know how it works for you. I tried it than switched mid hatch 'cause once the chicks were out, they didn't have anywhere to go. I don't think it hurt anything.
