Anyone hatching Dec 14th? Looking for hatching buddies for 1st hatch!

It is a little hard to see.....does it record better if you shine the light right through the air cell? I guess it is too late now, since you probably have them back on LD. I am sorry you are having a hard time with these eggs

the humidity hasn't gone up any so I'm trying to heat the tub now anyway. Will use my camera this time it takes better pictures.

It looks like the first one pipped the air cell and the second one hasn't yet. I can't tell much more than that from the video. You didn't see any movement at all I assume?

When they are trying to hatch it's a lot of work and they will go a loooong time resting. I'm not sure what I would do but I would probably take a chip out of the egg on the air cell side and see what I could see. That's just me though - I don't know if it would be the right thing to do or not but I honestly couldn't wait.

One other question... What date did you set these eggs? It is really easy to miscalculate your days by counting the first day. If this is truly day 23, then you should have set your eggs on 11-18 before 10:24 am EST.

And unfortunately, I think this one is dead. When I took this picture I got a really "good" sniff of him. It was like... smelling plaster of paris mixed in with a soggy old moldy towel with a hint of dead rat. The smell is faint though I had to put my nose right up on him to get it. I think i found the guy who peeped at me two days ago and sadly it didn't result very well. I hate to do it but I'm going to have to remove him. the smell is unquestionably a bad one even over here the memory of the smell is trying to make me gag. He's not moving and when I candle there seems to be spots on the inside too so he might infect the others if I do not.

going to pop open the air cell to see what happened to maybe save the others before they pip. Outside. Cause augh.

On a positive note... After I moved my eggs to lockdown position last night, I SWEAR I heard cheeping. And I know without a doubt at least one of the mille fleur d'uccle eggs was jumping around like a mexican jumping bean. Now I do have chicks in the basement so it could be cheeping from them but I am 90% sure it was one of the eggs in the basement. I am wondering with their small size if mille fleur d'uccle eggs may hatch in 19-20 days.

See I am going to miss the rocking eggs by putting them in the carton. Hmmmm.....decisions, decisions.......I guess I will still put them in the carton. My daughter was trying to get them to peep at her last night. It was very cute. Lock down in 1 hour!!!

Ugh sorry Rin,

That is an awful lot of air sac. It looks like it didn't have enough humidity.. Or maybe its because it's been in the bator for 23 days. Opening it up will at least help you try to understand what went wrong. If I am not mistaken, near 100% loss right before hatch is usually a humidity issue. It sounds like this one may have gotten "shrink wrapped"

I have always hatched mine on a flat surface and have only had one not make it after lockdown. The first hatched chicks do tend to bump the pippers all around but they also "help" by pecking at the pips. One plus to a carton would be they won't roll all around if younger kids bump the incubator. I don't think one way is better than the other - its just the way I did it on my first hatch and I haven't had any reason to change it. Congrats on getting to lockdown - here's hoping for happy healthy chicks!

Rin sometimes we do more harm then good.Sit on your hands and let mother nature takes it's course. As long as your humidity and temp are where they are supoose to be there isn't more you can do.I know it's heartbreaking and you want to help but it will be what it will.As much as I hate lossing any myself..it's out of our control.Hang in there and just leave them be and if none pip by tomorrow night..I would consider it a loss.Learn from your experience and try again.I always record what I do.Adding water how many times I turn what time I set the eggs and so on.Then when they hatch I can check back on what I did to see if anything is the cause of it.I have considered that if I keep my temp at 100 and humidity at 45-50 and turn 5 times a day I get a good hatch rate.I up my humidity to 65-70 on LD as well. This is just my own experience. It all depends on the incubator to.I have a Genisis 1588 built in fan.Take all that into consideration when hatching and it's always a trial and error honestly.Don't give up!
