Anyone hatching Dec 14th? Looking for hatching buddies for 1st hatch!

My hatch has been a bit mixed so far

All 12 EEers hatched and there are some really cool looking chicks in the batch.

Out of 14 mille fleur d'uccles, only 8 have hatched so far and 6 of them have a tucked-in outside toe

I have made little "boots" for all of them and that is supposed to fix the problem, but i just want to make sure the issue isn't genetic.

I do have 1 more pip on the mille fleur d'uccles, but the last 5 I am fairly sure are not going to make it.

So all-in-all, I have 21 chicks to cheer me up so I think it will be just fine

I will take some photos of the "boot crew" in a bit.

Kids just came back in and told me that Blue our bantam hen had gotten off her nest and that the egg has a crack in the side. Blue is also making chatting noise while sitting on her egg. Of course by the time I got out there she was back in the nest:)

pictures of mom and possible dad are back on page 31 or 32-not sure how soon we will get a picture of baby.... mom is extremely protective. Will a heat lamp be needed once the chick is hatched, currently hanging out in a heated garage(50 degrees F).

I woke up this morning and my temp was at 97.....arg! It has stayed stable 99.5-100.2 for the last 21 days! Whats up with that! I saw two new pips though, and I got the temp back up and then this......................

It's a very small styrofoam cooler. I'm using a light bulb mounted near the bottom for heat. So it's a matter of getting them at the right distance to not be too hot or too cold. I think I have it right now. it's been stable for a few hours.....wish me luck!

Ok - Here it comes....

You can see the "boots" in some of the photos. You can also see that some of the chicks only have boots on 1 foot. That is because the other boot fell off and their toes are already pretty much fixed!
