Rin - I'm so glad you're trying again. I will send some prayers your way for cute fuzzies early in the new year!

I woke up this morning and one of my little chicks had some accumulated poo stuck to it's bottom. This happens sometimes with new babies and can plug up the vent hole, then they can't get their poop out and it can kill them. Fortunately, I caught it in time and was able to soak it's bottom with a wet towel then clean off the poop. The vent hole is right next to the spot where the yolk gets absorbed so I had to be careful not to open up that hole and cause bleeding. The chick looks fine now, sorry I didn't think to take pictures for y'all. Mine are starting to get spunky now

One white rock is out! There is another that is pipped. All the other eggs no pips yet. This is a weird hatch for me, all my other hatches before were like popcorn popping, with a few stragglers towards the end, I'm not sure whats up with these. ***Patience***

Temps are stable and I locked down the first 5. I have 3 more going in lockdown in 2 days. No idea how I'm gonna sneak them in! lol
I'm suddenly not feeling so optimistic

Congratulations on all your chickies, everyone! I've been busy, so I had a lot of catching up onthis thread. Nine Cochins and eight Seramas went into LD on Friday -- the hatcher is in the basebent, not so I stay out of it so much but so the cat's litter box gets cleaned more

I lost one of the Seramas that I hatched last week; one whole leg was swollen and purple, and two toes on the other foot were the same way. She had a wing out, propping herself up while she held her bad leg up, and she cried all night! While I hate to lose a Serama, I did the right thing and put her down. So here's hoping for replacement buddies for the other Serama baby!

Well I just got back from checking on the brooder chicks. Some of the ones I made the booties for already had the booties fall off. Every one of them that did has normal toes now! I can't even tell them apart from the 2 that had the normal toes from hatch. I think maybe because the eggs are so small they may hatch just a little early and actually finish growing outside the egg.

Eggcellent, that's good news about the toes. What a relief!

Kooltex and Chicken Chat - way to go!

Congats all on your babies!

Mine are hatching sooooooooooo slow, that other pipped cornish is napping I think, another white rock is pipped and working at it. But the others are still quiet.
