well...I knew I'd make beginner mistakes so I bought way more eggs then I expected to hatch. Plus they were all being shipped! I started with 56 and am around 33 now. I had a bunch scramble in the mail, or not fertile. I think I'll have the best luck from the set the Marans are in.

It's good...it's good. Buying more eggs than you need is very smart, since shipped eggs normally don't do great....normally....hehe

Did I? No. I saw a thread on here where somebody did and they hatched!

Oh man, now that sounds too funny... I think I have to try that the next time I incubate. I just can't resist a challenge.

I hear tapping!!!!!! I know I said I was going to bed....but i am still up and I heard tapping. I went over and it continued for a few seconds. No pips though. At least I know someone in there is at least thinking about coming out. Since they are in the carton, there is no rocking and rolling for me to see but I will take the little tap, taps!!

I don't want to go to bed, but the alarm is going off at 6:30. That means just under 6 hours of possible sleep. I guess I better head upstairs. If anyone finds a good 12 step program let me know. I, like the rest of you, have been surfing ebay for days looking for the next little bunch to put in the incubator. Is their a name for our "disease"? If not, let's make one.

Good night for REAL this time!

Yay for Crazy Girl,
I'm sure you'll be up before me, as I'm on the west coast and no way will I be up early!
But, I expect to see some great news and possibly pictures from you when I check in tomorrow.

We had a little scare tonight. Our power went out and stayed out. We found out that up to 27,000 homes were without power for some part of the evening in our area. Of course, my little babies started complaining as soon as the lights went out and their brooder started cooling off immediately too. I figure 70 degrees is probably too cool for them so I did tried to put a the voitive candle in the brooder with them but they kept trying to get way too close to the warmth of the light. So, I did the only other thing I could think of. I put a zip up sweat shirt on over my shirt, zipped up half way and popped all three chicks inside the sweat shirt. I became their brooder until the lights came back on.

too bad the lights came on so soon, it was kinda fun.

umm, I think maybe the Cochin chicks might have pecked the feet. They're the same age, but twice as big, and one is crowing (1 week old)! It was the Serama that hatched all crusty, and I washed her off under warm water to detatch one wing from her side. Her legs turned red from the heat of the water, so maybe that damaged them. I'll be be more carefull cleaning them next time.

17 eggs in the hatcher, and nothing happening yet. Too loud down there to hear anything.

Well Suechick, you are right I do have good news. No fuzzy butts yet but we have a pip on one of the BLOs and she gave me a sweet little cheep when I shined the flashlight on her!!!!

As much as I would have like to have seen her fluffed up and running around this morning, I am so glad the girls did not miss the first hatch. If I can get a good pic, I will post it. Praying for a fun day of pips, peeps and fuzzy butts!!
