Anyone HATCHING?!?!? Newbie's and addicts WELCOME!!!! Hatch Calendar page 1!!!!

Hi Everyone! spent the last half an hour reading all the posts and checking out all the great pics of peeps!
Unfortunately we had to cull the two sick ones...my first time and it was sad...but I kissed them and told them
they would be on Jesus' farm now.... since then we've both had horrible colds and this is the first day I've felt
like even looking online.

We have 7 babies that are very healthy and prob a couple of roos in there.... but we've moved them to the brooder
out in the garage and even though nights are downright cold - 14 - they are staying warm under the light.

I made my first chicken saddle the other day for our hen Dora as Rusty the Rooster has raked her raw. I put it
on her after dark and she seems fine with it... and Rusty is leaving for a new home today as the baby roos will take his place.

He is moving to a place with about 6 new 'girls' and I'm sure he will be dancing pretty for them! Since we are in NV we always
refer to our hens as our 'working girls' which gets a laugh...

Glad everyone's hatch has gone for the most part very well and this has been so much fun and a great learning experience also...
a very Merry Christmas to everyone!!

I have one chick hatched, two pips and 2 doing nothing yet. I am surprised that the first chick is solid yellow like a wheaten (they are buff x wheaten) I was expecting buff with partridge markings. Never know what color they will feather in though

Hoping for a solid color because that would really benefit my buff Ameraucana egg color improvement project

That is rough! Good luck with the rest of them

I give my chicks and any sick chicken, GQF Vitamins Plus powder in their water and boy does it perk them up!

I buy it at the feed store. One teaspoon per gallon of water, so it goes a long way

Glad your others are doing well!!

My mother was telling someone about my chickens and she couldn't remember the name "showgirls". She told the women I had some weird ones called burlesque girls.

I set 6 chicken on Tuesday along with 23 English White coturnix quail eggs and 1 dozen Golden coturnix. This is my second time incubating eggs. Last time we got 8 out of 20, which was great because the bulb in the incubator blew and was out for a couple hours.
The alpha rooster of my flock is a 9 month old Production RIR (in my avatar). I currently have two of his 10 week old daughters. They are half sisters; one of them is sort of black copper colored and her mother is a birchen bantam Cochin and the mother of the other one is a blue bantam Cochin. Two of the eggs in the incubator were laid by one of the two bantam Cochin hens, so the chicks from those will be either blue, black, or black copper. The other 4 eggs were laid by one of these: a partridge-ish EE, a black sexlink, one of my two Dominiques, or a Silver Laced Wyandotte. So there should be a lot of variety

The quail should be hatching on New Years Eve and the chickens on January 4th.
