I remember how nervous I was my first hatch to, it's nerve racking!!!

Thanks!!

Candled my silkie eggs last night and threw out quite a few clear ones. I think I counted 9 left, some were questionable so I just left them in. Good news is the 2 that were doing the best were RED silkies!!!!

Which is the whole reason I wanted these eggs to begin with s YAY!!!!!!

they make it through lockdown!!! This hatch has actually seemed to go by alot faster than the others, I think it's because of the new incubator, I don't have to go check it all the time, I know it's good as long as it has water, I loooovvve it so far!!!

Im a newbie, and ive just made my homemade incubator.. iave it running 5 days now, and its well calibrated.

Ive added in some RIR eggs, along with some fab Milefleur Pekins i ordered online.

Query now, i see you can stack in the incubators? As mine is now full , i thought it might be worth asking, can you just stack them ontop of each other or put trays in and stack or what?

Thanks

I think it depends on your incubator, I have a R-com20 that holds 20 eggs, but I can stack more eggs on top of the 20 eggs and the turner will still turn them all.

I am curious what you mean some of them "questionable?" what do they look like? I candled mine last light, they look red and not quit looking like flat pancakes. hard to describe! Its very hard for me to find veins (brown egg astralorpes) hatching due Jan 28th

What I mean is they show some development but not as much as the others, and I couldn't see any movement in them, but they aren't stinking or anything yet so I leave them in until I candle again at lockdown in case I missed something, I would hate to throw one out if there is a posibility of it developing! Dark brown eggs are hard to candle, when we were hatching welsummer eggs (which are very dark brown) we used a slide projector to candle them, otherwise we could hardly see anything!

Yes it does looks so confusing ! Last Christmas. I try to hatch, but they all died. There was few eggs have full body ! Others did not developed. I was sad and trying to figure out whats wrong !, First I think one time the temps went too high a week before that may killed them. I was wondering about humidity, it was high as 80%. and another posibility is they way they eggs were layed down, when I turned eggs maybe rupture the air sac? really I dont know. I am now trying for the second time, in egg cartons, big end up, turning them side ways few times a day. Watching my temps like a hawk too ! By the way Theres no blood rings or very dark spots. eggs are red. My light may not show the veins, so really I cant find any pictures looks like mine ! I will just leave them alone until hatching time and see what happens ! (Jan, 28)

Hi thebanthams

Have you seen these candling pics?

I like these to compare my eggs too. It really helps a lot to determine how far along they are. Sometimes if your temps are too low they won't be far enough to lock down even though it is day 18. Also if your humidity is to high and your air cells have not shrank enough before hatching the chicklets can drown before they hatch. It is hard to do but when you have a bad hatch you should put the eggs into a ziplock and break them open. If you can see what they look like when they died you can adjust your incubation
