I think layer is bad for chicklets! The extra Calcium causes problems. I use Chick starter from Purina and sometimes the Naturewise products. If your humidity goes to low try draping a damp towel over the bater before opening it to keep the humidity up until you can get a sponge in or water. This was a suggestion from a lady here and she had really good results doing that. I have the opposite problem - our humidity can be too high for incubation!

I sold 9 birds Saturday. 4 silkies and 5 from my LF group. I really needed room in my coop and I had a group of giant cochins I called the housewives because they would never go outside! I sold 3 pullets and a cockeral from them. My coop looks empty now!!

Hopefully the new incubator will stop the problem hatches! Don't give up though

!!!! Have you candled to see if they have piped internally? I have a problem down here with my humidity being too high during incubating and my chicks are too large to zip sometimes! I even try to dry incubate

Some say help and others say don't but I think if it's just a matter of the chicks being too large to zip then helping is not so bad

I haunt that auction site like an addicted person (which I am). I set and dream of colored eggs and larger coops! (Which I WILL have) I drool all over my phone and tell myself that my incubators are full, I have 3 tubs of peeps in my dining room, a hospital ward in my spare bedroom, and a DH ready to send me to a padded cell (already reserved). Then I frantically write down dates of hatches and try to figure out ship dates to see which ones I can bid on . . . . .

I know, I know...must stay away from auction!!!! I just received a beautiful package of 24 CJ silkie eggs but realized that i have too many chickens for my city place so i gave them to Nancy (Bargain) to hatch and keep...
