With the Salmon Favorelle you can tell roo from pullet pretty quick

. The roos have a lot of black and the pullets don't so if they start sprouting black feathers we have a roo. Now let's hope it's not like my Nellie orps and rooster yahtzee

Hi all,

I just posted this question separately, but then I thought this might be a good thread to ask this question... how do I piggy back eggs? I have two full incubators and 12 more eggs that I need to set today!!

Do I need to turn the autoturner off and hand turn until I candle and get rid of the duds? Do the piggy backed eggs just go in the spaces between eggs? I have a fan (Hovabator), so I don't need to worry that the piggy backed eggs are just a bit higher than the eggs in the autoturner groves, right (fan evens out slight temperature gradients, right)?

Totally appreciate thoughts.... thanks!

Unfortunately with shipped eggs it's just a gamble, my last batch of silkie eggs I got shipped and I threw one mutt egg in just for the fun of it and my mutt egg was the only one that made it. There are so many things to factor in when dealing with shipped eggs it's hard to narrow it down. But if you mutt eggs hatched you must be doing everything right. Could be rough handling from PO, detached aircells, unfertile eggs......just so many questions with shipped eggs.

Okay, thanks for the reply.

This is what I woke up to this morning:

You can see the egg beside the chicks head that's cracked, its peeping and cracked last night. Its hard to take a picture because the plastic of the incubator was reflecting the light in the room.

i have pekin duck eggs due to hatch in 10 days !!! (jan 28th) when i candled them lastnight I could see 4 of them going strong. Duck eggs are very cool you can almost see thru them making it awesome to candle! this is my 3rd hatch but my first time for ducks and my 1st hatch in my homemade incubator!

I have a R-com20 incubator so I doubt I can be of much help, but on mine I can stack the eggs on top of each other and the way the turner works it still turns them all. Hopefully someone on here with hovabator can help ya out some more?!?!

Awwww, how cute!!!

I love how his-her little head is sitting between the eggs looking right at you!! Adorable...Congrats!!!

Thanks! Whenever I checked on them this morning I saw that there was just egg shell and i was thinking wheres the chick?I looked over and it was on the other side of the incubator sitting in the one of the empty egg carton spots, it was so cute. I was surprised that it hatched before the other egg since it wasn't peeping or anything last night.
