I'm preparing myself for the worst. My temps have run high since the beginning--can't seem to get that Hovabator down! I have two cheap thermometers that are saying it's 103-106. I have a candy thermometer that says 100-102 or even 103. I bump the setting down, and check later, it's hardly moved!
Last time-- with a poor hatch (2/22), it always ran low---97-99. The one thing I have done different this time was to take the little red plugs out of the top of the bator this time, and decreased the water in the bottom of the 'bator (based on what I have been reading). Evidently not the thing to do with THIS 'bator. Live and learn--'cept I wanted to learn while still having chicks hatch! I'm doing lockdown tomorrow morning, but I'm not expecting much.
Well, I'm totally surprised--I have three pips! No peeping at all--no rocking, and I haven't seen any movement in the egg that has the most open pip, so I'm still worried. But evidently at least three made it through those spikes til today at least. I'm not gluing myself to the incubator, I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm hoping and praying I'll actually see a few peepers in the next few days!
I have a hatch due on the 7th but may go a day before. Very excited! Out of 10 mille fleur and porcelain d'uccles- 6 are still viable tonight and out of 4 OEGB crele poss crele/self blue crosses 3 are still viable as of tonight. I'm hoping for all 11 to hatch. Nervously waiting.
I am happy I left one of my questionable eggs in the incubator because it seems to of caught up with the rest of the eggs. So I have 11 eggs going into lock-down. I have to set up my brooder. I hope they hatch. please, please, please.
