Taa Daa here is what I found this morning

One hatched yesterday morning

everyone needs an early bird and then there were 3 at midnight now there are 8 with 2 more zipping 1 pipped and 2 just hanging 'round chillin so maybe by tonite I'll be done. I'm very pleased 15 shipped eggs 13 went into lock down and I paid for 12

this doesn't happen very often either it so makes up for the one batch that not a single egg made it or the one that came as egg soup and not the shippers fault either. Next hatch is the 14th.

Today is day 21, but I have not much hope as temps have been all over the place.

This is my first time using our new Brower Top Hatch. The theromstat has driven me completely batty, varying from 96 to 103F in a 24 hr period when the room only varied by 2 degrees. And it isn't a drafty spot either.

Our own Speckled Sussex and BBS Ameraucana, shipped Welsummers.

It will be sad if we get none at all, but I am preparred for that likelihood.

Everyone else is getting such cuties!

Pleasantly surprised! Yesterday, I figured the one egg that had pipped a big hole--not zipped, but a bigger hole than the little triangular pip--I figured it was shrinkwrapped, so I put more warm water in--without opening the bator. I used a juice infuser for meats--looks like an oversized seringe thingy. I put the needle through one of the holes in the top of the bator and aimed carefully. Some of the water went into the troughs and some went into the egg cartons the eggs were sitting in.

Checked on the eggs this morning. Still the two unmoving pips and one hole pip/zip. No cheeping, no nothing. Today is day 20, i kept reminding myself. I went out to run the errands that were going to take all day. Called my son at 3. He tells me I have 3 chicks!

WHAT!!!!!!??????

Long story short, tonight I have 6 chicks, 2 zipping and 2 pips, with 8 not doing anything. (this includes the one dead egg).

Question: The 6 hatched chicks are pecking at the zipping eggs and playing hockey with the others. I'm afarid to open the bator to take them out cuz I don't want to shrink wrap the pipped ones, but I'm not sure how many hatched chicks the bator can handle while there are still eggs to hatch. When do I take the dry chicks out?

They are okay for 3 days

I can never wait that long either and I always shrink wrap somebody I wait maybe 48 to 60 hrs and of course the babies are always just fine so wait as long as you can

Woohoo! I have two hatched and a bunch zipped!

Is it OK that I keep flashing the candler light at them? I'm not going to blind them am I?

Another thing, I am hatching in egg cartons. One of the hatchlings seems to have his foot stuck in the egg shell. I guess he should be fine until he gets stronger and pulls it out, but my problem is that he is lying on another egg. Will the other bird die if he can't get out due to this chick being on top of him?

I'm on day 20 btw.

Day 22, no pips. I think they are all dead. Will dutifully wait until Saturday. Very bummed.

Think my hatch is done 11 little fuzzy butts I left the other 2 in the incubator but no pips or cheeps but ya never know. Congrats on the rest of the babies and JoAnn_WI_4-H_Mom don't give up yet there are people that hatches didn't start until the 28th day.....not that I could wait that long either

24 eggs (1/2 BO, 1/2 JG) - 4 pips, 1 zip this morning... then after kids went to school, the zipped one started to shrink wrap!
So, ON went the Very hot shower in the bathroom and in went the chick and I'm SO pleased to have it survive!!

No veins on the inside of the shell - if I had left in the 'bator, it would've surely died. Close call! It's in the 'bator trying to rouse the others and dry off! Hope it's dried and well for when the kids come home!
I placed another dish with warm water in and the temps seem to be stable for now too! Trough at the bottom seems to still be full too... Guess one bowl wasn't enough.

This is my first hatch... I can only hope that the pips will be saved or at the very least, more of others will be saved!
