Anyone hatching on the 4th Of May Or Around that time. Hatch with me!

I have babies!

So out of the 11 eggs that went into lock-down I have 8 in the brooder right now. The ones in the brooder are 1 blue laced red wyandotte, 2 golden polish, 2 bc marans, 2 blue splash marans, and 1 silver laced wyandotte. So nothing happened until day 21. To tell you the truth I did not think anyone was going to hatch. There was no chirping or egg rocking. I was checking the eggs at least every hour. This is my first hatch and I was expecting possible disappointment. So I was walking through the house and I heard chirping. I ran in there to find a golden polish climbing around the other eggs and the other polish was pipping. I was so excited and worst of all I had to go to work. I guess it is good I had to go because it does take quite a while for everyone to hatch. When I got home the other polish had hatched and there was pips on a lot more eggs. I watched the silver wyandotte hatch and one black copper. It was so amazing. I am hatching in a Brinsea 20 eco and it was very crowded in there. It is so hard to not open the incubator.

8 of the 11 eggs had hatched yesterday and one more was zipping when I went to work again. Getting home from work the egg seemed to be in the same position it was 10 hours earlier. I remembered reading a post about them taking sometimes 14 hours to hatch. you could see the chic's fuzz sticking out of the egg and a little movement. I became concerned because the polish had hatched over 30 hours ago and all the other chicks were dry. A few of the chicks started pecking at the slow hatcher. I decided to take them out. I got the shower going and warmed up the room to pull everyone out. When I pulled out the chicks I decided to help my egg that seemed to stop hatching. I was so careful I didn't take the chick out of the egg I just finished the zip around. It was chirping during this and I was so afraid of making a mistake. So now my chick a blue orpington has hatched and he is a big one. I still have my orp in the incubator to dry he does seem a bit weak so I hope he makes it.

I am not putting him with the other chicks until he runs around like the rest of them. I still have 2 eggs left in the incubator with the orp. I don't see any pips and this is day 23.

The two eggs left are a buff brahma and an easter egger. How much longer should I give these two eggs?

All in all I am happy to have healthy looking chicks in the brooder and I hope my little orp makes it. I can't wait to get more eggs to hatch. Good luck to all those

I have another batch of eggs that are due to hatch on May 13th... but I think they might take a little longer because they didn't seem quite as far along as I would've expected when I candled on May 6th. I could be wrong, of course; but that was the impression I had when I candled. I think perhaps the temp was a bit low when I first started incubating in my new Brower Top Hatch incubator, and maybe that led to slower development of the embryos.

I moved the developing eggs into my Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco after candling them, since my first batch did so well there. I think I finally got the temp stabilized in the Brower, but I decided to go with the Brinsea anyway, because it just seems really trustworthy. Right now, there are 12 Blue Andalusian eggs and 7 Blue Orpington eggs that made it to lockdown. I had to use wax on one of the developing eggs because I found a crack in the shell when I candled it. It seems okay, though. The chick inside was moving around quite a bit, and looked good and healthy. I sure hope it still makes it.

on your babies! I had been expecting a poor hatch-- even nothing, too--and here they are! Mine never peeped or rocked in the shells, either--I figured they just didn't make it. I hope your little blue orp makes it, too. As to the other eggs, I keep reading here that some hatch as late as day 24 or 25--didn't didn't I read day 28? Can you candle the last two? I just took my last 4 out--don't have a strong enough flashlight right now, so I didn't candle. It was day 25. All four had chicks! But I don't think they were alive. (I'm gonna start a new thread to ask about this, because I don't want to go to far off topic! LOL!)

JestersEye good luck on your hatch too!

Thanks Delighted.

I put my orpington in with the others. He seems fine. Still a little weak but none of his hatch-mates seem to be picking on him. He is drinking and eating though.

I love happy endings. Once I locate my camera i will post some pics.

No babies for me. Autopsies showed all different stages of development, so the various temp spikes and drops must have killed them on different days.

I will try again when a new thermostat is installed and proven.

Congrats to all who had successful hatches! I will just keep playing with the 6 peepers I have from an earlier hatch and wait for my box of 25 coming from Sand Hill in June.

Happy Hatching!

Jo Ann, I'm so sorry your batch didn't have any hatchers. I'm glad you have some to play with now and that some more are on their way. I do understand not wanting to try til you have the right equipment. My last 5 died probabaly at hatch time-- their eggs were full of liquid--I had put a couple wet rags and later some more water in because of the two dry hatched eggs--but then i drowned the last 5! I will make sure i have a hygrometer for next time!
