I'm in N CA on the coast. The Temp is 60/70's

Two males, one female in this area

These two males decided to start sitting together on the clutch after the 9th egg was laid.
Sometimes it's just the one or the second male will sit beside him and pickup bits of straw like when they cover up the eggs except he puts it on himself. It's kinda sad, funny, and scary at the same time but most of the day/night they sit together, sometimes on top, sometimes side by side. haven't seen or heard any fighting so I haven't tried to stop it

In another area we have 1 male & female.
He also decided to start sitting after the 9th egg was laid and now is on at least 10. He's doing his normal trance state but sometimes I can catch him up turning the eggs :)

fast as i can type

there's an oddity in the emu nesting dynamic:

it's Taylor, 2003, from memory, whose study reveals that around half of the eggs that males hatch aren't theirs.

This might explain why there's no aggressive possessiveness in a case like this.

(and yah, isn't the 'Look, I'm putting little bits of leaves and grass on and around myself -- that'll keep me warm!'
