If so, I'd like to know what the APA standard says about the WEIGHT of the large fowl Sumtras...for both sexes and young/old birds...please....I'd found differing opinions online so I'd like to know "the truth."

Thanks!

That's what I thought...and that's the size of my birds...however, the judge this weekend said my pullet was "too small" and the pullet that beat her weighed more. The roosters, I could not believe the size of them compared to mine! I did not bring mine to show but OMG! These things were probably 10-12lbs with legs like Cornish.

I know that we should all breed towards the standard but I have noticed that just like lots of other things in America, we tend to like bigger and bigger. This is the same case with Poultry. I think if you put the top winning white rocks on a scale they would be way over...just the current trends. Not that it is right, just how it is.

Yeah, it's sad. They should either change the standard or go with what's been....just my opinion, though.

I see that you have WFBS? Do you show them? I've been looking for some high-quality breeders for a while now to improve one of my (many) projects.

I thought you meant APA as in American Psychological Association.. the standard for writing report and thesis. I was already with my online version to help you look up a citation..

One thing that also need to be looked at is that these birds were not normally a small bird. They heavier birds are probably more true to the "old" Sumatras. Way too often people are focused on the APA/ABA standards, that original characteristics of breeds are lost.

Assuming for purposes of this discussion that this is acurate it's irrelevant. The OP was responding to a situation involving showing per the APA Standard. If you plan on showing at sanctioned shows in the US then the APA & ABA Standards are what you need to adhere to unless you don't care about placing or winning.

But are those maximum weights? And I am not trying to be a smartelic, but just asking. It says they should weigh at least that, correct? I think that it is very relevant that the show world is changing animals...and not always for the better.
