Anyone have a hen or eggs set for October? Join us!

lol! Both eggs that were peeping this morning have now pipped. Still nothing from the other 4 that should be alive, but then again I only heard them peeping because I opened it to let some humidity out, so I might not hear the others if they start peeping.

YAY!!
I've had nothing pip so far. I'm hopeful that they'll start soon. I am trying hard not to mess with the eggs. I have a tiny brooder tote ready to heat up when they begin to pip. My dogs have started going to the incubator occasionally and sniffing it/looking at it. That is a good sign. means they hear something that I don't. :) Or it could be really bad they might smell something that i dont LOL
I think dogs CAN hear something we don't! Last week our Shih-Tzu came in our bedroom at 3AM in the morning. I got up and "did the rounds" and found 3 pips in the bator!

Good Luck on those chickies!

I've got 3 eggs in the incubator from my staggered hatch. They went into lockdown Friday and hatchday is tomorrow!

They are from a blue/black/splash breeding pen (silkies) and I really want a splash pullet..........I've got 2 splash cockerels.

I know they can hear what we can't but they can also smell what we can't. I'm hoping for chicks not rotten eggs :) Plus once hatched I have to bleach the incubator and move my other eggs into it. I currently have some under a heat lamp.

Chick #1 just hatched! And I feel so lucky...I walked over to check the incubator and noticed that the pip had been cracked a bit, so I grabbed the camera, and got the entire 30 minute ordeal onto video so my kids can watch tomorrow morning. :D My best friend was also on Skype the whole time so she got to watch it, too. I feel so accomplished!! I made my own incubator and it grew little babies from my own chickens! Mama is Pidgey so we have dubbed the little one Pidgeotto. lol The other pipped egg looks like its hole is getting bigger, too, so I might wake up to 2 of them tomorrow morning. Hoping the other 4 get the message with their sibling bumping them around and get the move on!

Wishing everyone the best of luck. I set 24 shipped silkie eggs on 9/27; can I join??? Set up the bator and left for the beach for several days with prayers. The bator did great. Candled yesterday and 15 out of the 24 are showing veins. The other 9 all that I can see is yolk. Should I remove those 9 now? These are silkie eggs that I had shipped to Maryland from Washington state. Also I just got a new coop that is 12x18 and I would like some help with ideas and planning the layout inside. I want to breed silkies. All colors with individual pens. Any Ideas anyone?

Welcome featheredfreind. If the eggs are over 11 days old and no veins at all throw away. Make sure they are just yolks ! I have silkies, and my white one just hatch 6 on her own. Good luck !

Come on little chickie.

I'll have to put some type of partition in the brooder between the week old silkies (5 of them) and these new babies. -At least for a couple days so they can sleep without getting walked on!

2 more days til first hatch day (2 eggs including my cracked egg)

6 of 19 original eggs are developing well. Unfortunately I'm going to end up with wildly staggered hatches due to poor planning and bad fertility rates.
