Anyone have a travel trailer?

I have a 30' mallard, sleeps 8, but I'm not sure how much it weighs. We bought it a few years ago when our kids were teenagers. We took two trips to the adirondacks and then bought a log home in the woods. It's barely used and I don't want to go anywhere anymore. I live at camp. I loved staying in that camper though! If you are interested, I can give you a great deal! email me for pictures and more info.

We have a great hitch all the heavy towing gear. We bought it knowing we would haul with it. Good tires on the SUV (under 17k miles on the car) and new tires on the trailer (although we are thinking of buying newer now since the prices are sooooo low here). My parents haul a 30ft boat, so whatever we get I know my dad will make sure it is hauled properly and at least up to boat standards. I figure big boats and RV's have similar mechanical systems.

No scrimping on safety. I like my kids and my car in one piece.

We just bought a 1967 Airstream Soverign for a thousand dollars!!!!! I am so excited I could pee myself!!!! I have loved Airstreams forever, and this one is in very good shape for its age- just a few things here and there that need to be fixed up. We were always tent campers, but with three kids its getting a little tough to do it now. My parents have a pop up, but they have a really hard time even getting set up. I CANT WAIT to be able to pull into a campground in our oldie but goodie

We got the best hitch and sway bars we could get. Electric brakes and all. I was so comfortable staying in there, that I always said I could live in it and be happy. It's not really camping, it's vacationing. I hate hotels, yuk. Give me my little home on the road. Definately the full bath was important to us. I thought the oven was nice, although I only used it twice. If I did it again, I'd go with laminate floors instead of carpet and vinyl. I've managed to keep the carpet like new, but at the expense of my teenagers having to remove their shoes before entering. The kids loved the sound system, at my expense. The slide out does make a huge difference in space. Ours is only in the couch area, but wow. Now I want to take a trip. I'd have to build a coop in the bunk area. Hmmm....

If you are interested in purchasing one... I would recommend checking Craigs list, but be very careful. Lots of hidden issues that folks may not tell you and it's more expensive to fix.

DH & I did a lot of homework and looked at lots of pull campers (new and old) before we settled on ours. It is a Pumpa. It came with a life time warrenty on the floor and 12 year on the roof if well maintained. We decided to go with new because we saw a lot of poorly maintained used ones... With an overrun of Katrina campers in our area, I wasn't to keen purchasing a worn out camper.

It has a 30 gallon water tank and two propane bottles. It's pretty heavy for a 20 foot long box, but it has plenty of storage and a full size bathroom with a full size closet in the bath. Its just my DH and I and we love it. Where we live A/C is a must to sleep at night or we would have purchsed a pop up.

Mine has a microwave and stove... no oven, but can't think of a reason to bake while camping when the grill will work -

I agree with the other poster... get an electric break box system. If your getting a big one... breaking is a must.

Depending on your state, you may have to add it to your auto insurance. It only cost me about $25-40 more a month.

Good Luck. Do lots of home work and purchase a camper that fits your needs and your price range.

If it weren't a 10 hours drive through Canada I would look! Thank you for the offer.

We had a pop up. When pulled out was 30' long, had a king, queen, full, and a single bed in it. One slide out, frig, sink, stove, all the storage I could want or need. Four children and 2 adults and we slept all comfortable. We sold it last year because we stopped camping so much

We have had 1 travel trailer and 2 fifth wheels. The fifth wheels pull alot easier than the travel trailers. You don't get that swaying motion if you hit a bump or something. The fifth wheels are also easier to manuver around.

If you get a fifth wheel, you will need to get a hitch installed in the back of your truck.

The bunk styles are really great. Our 1rst fifth wheel had a rear bedroom for our son that could be closed off.

Our Cougar fifth wheel at 28 ft. slept more than our 40 ft. Wilderness does now. But our son is now 17 so he doesn't always go with us.
