anyone have cats?

For all of you who have cats... how do they treat the chickens? Are they allowed outside with them? How and at what age did you introduce them? My grandson wants a cat, his dad's allergic so they can't have one at their house and he wants me to get one - ut I already have 'his' three chickens! Need some advice on if I should get one. I'd like it to be an indoor/outdoor cat. (the house came with a cat door...LOL). Thanks!

It depends on the cat and the birds. Our formerly ferral outdoor cat was a killer in her younger years...she still is when she wants to be. I have one rooster that challenged her when she was chasing him (he actually just tripped on her

) so now he believes he "won" and will chase back now. She doesn't mess with him anymore. The cat thinks my other roo is a fun toy, she chases, he screams and runs. She has never tried to hurt him. She looks at the neighbors chickens like they are lunch, they would be if she caught them. I know my birds are safe around her but if there were chicks running by her, her instinct would take over.

I have and outdoor cat named Ivy. She loves to hang out with my chickens. They get a little irritated with her sometimes but they all get along fine:)

I currently only have 4 kitties, but I work for a Cat Rescue and often have upwards of 15 especially during kitten season. I've rescued/ rehabilitated/ and re-homed over 200 cats in my short lifetime. I love cats. Few things tug at my heartstrings but they sure do!

This is my girl Merlin, Tortie point siamese, mix probably.. she was a rescue. I lost her February of last year.

Investigating things with "her" babies, lol. Their momma was rescued when she was pregnant so Merlin was around them from day 1 & nearly adopted them.
