I'm on day 18,they are darker eggs and this is my first incubation so I'm waiting it out. I sure hope they aren't duds.
I have some on day 6 that 8 of 14 silkies are developing, one has a blood ring. and out of 15 lakenvelders only 1 has development.

no, I picked them up from someone. The silkies and lakenvelders did have a long ride before I picked them up and one of the silkies was cracked open when I got it.

think they will hold around 280 chicken eggs all total. I have three 3' X 4' and one 4' X 4' brooder boxes in the barn. If had enoough eggs to load them all at the same time, any thing over a 70% hatch rate would cause me to have to build another brooder. Wouldn't that be a shame.

Thats a lot of fuzzy butts! My next brooder is going to be my DH's old truck bed trailer once he's done with it

All ten of my eggs were duds! I am going to be setting more in a few days. I need to find eggs from someone different this time.

My last batch none of them hatched, just did eggtopsy on them yesterday right after I set my next batch. I'm SO hoping that I at least get a couple of them to hatch. I'm not expecting all of them to hatch but it'd be nice if at least one did out of a dozen!!

I am so excited. Just candled my eight babies and I can see heartbeats in some of them. None of them are clear, but the Sumatras don't seem to be as far along as the Ameraucanas. I need to be patient though. I bought these eggs from some people who raise show chickens. I got them because these were the first ones that I had found for sale, not because I plan on showing them, but I just wanted to try and hatch some babies myself. We are getting about 10 young Dominiques given to us, so maybe we can have eggs soon. But right now we are still building our coop and doing our best to make it predator proof (if that is possible). My husband is planning it out so that there is plenty of room, easy of access for gathering eggs and cleaning and weatherproofing. He has decided that each hen needs her own nestbox, even though I have tried to tell him that they will share some of the nests. Lol. We plan allowing the hens to run the yard when we are at home (after they have been here for a while and gotten used to where they are going to live) and a covered run to stay in during the day while we are at work. Fortunately, I only work 4 days a week. Big plans, but we are going to have to hurry up to get everything done before it is time to plant the garden. I am sure enjoying all of this though. It has taken my mind off any personal problems and given us an great project to do.

I have chicken and quail eggs going into lockdown on Tues, more chicken eggs on Thursday. I'll probably split the difference and lock them both down on Wednesday.

Then I have more chickens going into lockdown on the following Monday.

Hmmm, staggered hatches can be a hassle. Maybe I need another incubator to act as a hatcher. But that might only feed my addiction, I currently have 111 eggs "cooking", mostly shipped with probably around half developing. And YAY, next week is my week off work. I can wear a path to the incubator windows!

He has decided that each hen needs her own nestbox, even though I have tried to tell him that they will share some of the nests. Lol.

Will he be frustrated if he builds them each a nest and they all try to pile into one? I've found empty nests at the end of the day, with five eggs in another. Also, I'll find a hen in a nest and another trying to force herself in too, with an empty nest adjoining.

They always pick a favorite nest and everyone wants to use it!

I am sure enjoying all of this though. It has taken my mind off any personal problems and given us an great project to do.

I must admit, my favorite part of the day is when I have treats for my chickens in the afternoon and I walk out my kitchen door and call for them and they all come running (mine free range in the afternoon) haha, nothing beats seeing them running and flapping their wings to get there before the other chickens
