ANYONE HAVE EGGS DUE!! CHARTS ON PAGE ONE POST ONE!! NEWCOMERS WELCOME!!!

OK, here is the story of these chicks. The school called and wanted me to pick up some chicks that one of the classes were experimenting with coloring. OMG! The 2 incubators that were in the classroom smelled so bad. The eggs were hatching all over the place because they had been placed in the incubators on different days and the kids were opening and closing the lids so that they could watch. Several had died from shrink wrapping, one has splayed legs and one has a deformed foot. A toe is turned under. Not sure what to do to help these guys. One had been removed from his shell and died after I got them home. I took everything out of the incubator, disinfected everything, added paper towels and water to reset the humidity and temperature and put everything back in. Two eggs were getting ready to hatch, but the membrane was stuck to them. I wrapped them in damp paper towels and placed them back in the incubator. One finished hatching and the other died in the shell. I took the one out and placed him under a warming lamp to get him out of all the eggs that are still left in the incubator. (It is absolutely full). OMG! this is sickening to me.
My original 7 are due to hatch out tomorrow. What a mess! Can someone help me with the splayed legs and the one with the turned under toe?

oh my, I wish I knew how to help you

And they colored the eggs too, oh my, it's against the law here in Reno to color your baby chicks. People need to understand they are more than JUST CHICKENS! Why do people think they can do whatever they want to chickens and all is okay?

Thank you for trying your best to take care of these little ones. To fix the toe you will need to do it as soon as you can. Make a shoe using a band aid. It will keep coming off though and I don't know what else you can use. I do not know how to fix the splayed leg though.

Good Job gettin to the little fuzzybutts when you did. the shoe mentioned does work, I've tried it. as for the splayed legs, there is a link in the emergency thread about how to help with that, it also involves bandaids. Never used it though but people have had success.
Bless your heart and good luck with these and your own hatch..

What they do is inject the eggs with food grade dye when it is first developing. The color will not stay. When they lose their fluff, the color goes away. They just did not understand how to take care of the chicks, temperature, humidity, ect. I am trying to figure out how many of the eggs are actually viable right now so that I don't end up with a big stinky mess!

Aww Cute chick pics everyone!!
Good Luck to everyone else!!!

And the story about the colored chicks is sad
The kids should have been informed not to open the bators and just watch from the windows.
The chicks are fine if colored because it goes away but it seems most died because if all the opening of the bators. poor things.
Good thing u got them.

I just candled the first 84 eggs i put in Tuesday.....
Seems....All 84 are fertile and growing
all have the spider vein look

I have 114 all together..

I hope not all are fertile or I'm in trouble lol
I dnt have room for 114 new born chicks
