If they were shipped eggs then sometimes problems accrue. Ive had it happen a few times and had to cull alot of my chicks

My chicks hatched out on the 20th day.... there were 6 to completely hatch but only 3 lived.. I don't understand.. but it seemed like two of them didn't absorb their yolk all the way? I'm not sure.. but one of the ones who is still alive won't walk normal.. and he/she was hatched breech and I had to help him/her because he/she puntured it's yolk sack while trying to emerge. The one pictured is "normal" and has a sibling looking identical.. these were eggs that I'd purchased but.. they all seemed to do well when I'd candled them.. any thoughts? Has anybody had this happen before...? This was my first hatch.. and out of the dozen eggs 7 were viable but many quit and some didn't make it out of the egg..

no... they weren't shipped, I purchased them from a gentlemen down the road.. I was just wondering if there was something faulty in my hatching that may have caused it... or like... how I could prevent it..

what was ur temp and humidity during incubation and lockdown

All my hatches are 99.5-100 steady temp and 30% humidity. Then on lockdown, 70%. With good eggs, last time I got 8 out of 8.

I am putting 24 of mixed flock into lockdown this morning.

And I am setting 12 more chocolate indian runner duck eggs in the incubator! Here we go! Congrats on everyone's hatches.

maybe your thermometer is off,because you say you hatched at 20 days and chicks hadn't absorbed there yokes all the way. thats the first thing i would check.

SEMINOLEWIND: it sounds like ur temp was high. if they hatched early and didnt have the yolk absorbed.


Also:

I picked up a blue mille Fleur chick from a feed store. It was sooooo cute i had to get it

Me too I am thinking none of my Cochin Bantams made it either

I had 3 that I could definately see moving before lockdown but nothing yet.....I did have a few hot days it hit 111 in the bator but I still had movement 6-7 days after that so I don,t know what happened.. So sorry for your batch

Well surprise on day 22 we had a pip by the next night it looked like it was not gonna make it so after 6 hours of very careful assistance we hatched our first Cochin, Bantam she struggled to get through the first night ( I didn't think she was gonna make it) but today she is eating and drinking and very alert.. We have her separate from the others for her safety and I think she thinks I am her Mommy cause when she hears my voice she tweets til I give her attention,lol.....
