I set eggs June 28th. The babies are due to hatch on the 19th. I'm hoping a few will hatch early like last time. I can't wait to see what's in there. I'm doing it the old fashioned way, with a broody hen, so it might be a few days before I see how many babies we get. As they say, don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I set mine of the 28th too! Good luck! What do you have in your box? I have 15 eggs from my backyard mix of purebred brahmas, australorps, barred rocks, and a leghorn. All of my flock just hang together for now including several purebred roosters: brahma, orpington, cochins, and a RIR.

Im sorry. I didn't catch "broody hen/natural" in your post. My goodness I need to read better before reply!!!!

We have a nice little group on this thread:

I think more of us set on the 28th than the 30th. I set mine on the 28th and I'm getting impatient already! Usually I'm fine until about day 19, and then go nuts until the first pip and then I'm good again. But this is my first time with purchased eggs! And it's been a tough couple of weeks including a 3 day power outage. So I've hit my impatient mode early this time!!!

Come on over and join!

I posted all the time during my first hatch!

How are your eggs looking, both of you???

I candled a couple days ago. All of them are developing and I saw movement in 13 of 15, so I'm happy. Lockdown on Monday!

Temps have been stable (still air) around 100-101, humidity around 35-40% until day before yesterday. I started to increase it a bit...I'm probably at 50% or so right now...to be bumped up to 65-70% on Monday

whoa...i just had a serious temp spike...oh my. Hopefully, my thermometer on the wall is the most reliable. well my humidity is about 53%.
I hope it wasn't that high for long.

I just candled a few, saw definite movement in at least 1, possibly 2 others. My thermometers were reading up to 110. The one on the wall, which is what I most go by said 105. I have 5 thermometers and none seem accurate. One always reads high (sometimes much higher), another always reads low, so I haven't been paying too much attention to them. I'm concerned now, first time this entire incubation period that I have worried. Oh I hope they made it through this!!!!!! I last checked on them a few hours ago.

I haven't candled at all. I'm letting momma do all the work. She's got 11 mixed/surprise eggs under her. I get fertile eggs from my vet, and she has a very mixed flock. Last time we hatched eggs from her we got several with feathered feet and a bunch of barred rocks. In fact, I have a barred rock pullet with itty-bitty feathers on her shanks. She's one of a kind.

I was worried about the weather being too hot for my broody hen, then the clouds rolled in and it rained for nearly a week! The temps dropped down into the 70-80 range and it was so nice. I was concerned that it would be too hot, she'd get sick etc. But thank goodness for lower temps, it's so much more tolerable for her.

I have a feathered footed barred roo for you :) lol I got a few from my first hatch which went great. I had some temp spikes with that one too, so hopefully all will be okay this time (2nd time incubating) My broody hatched 5 of 9 about a month ago.
