Anyone have hydrangea starts?

my mom has some of the most beautiful blue hydrangeas! If you could let us now how to get the starts, and if they will ship to where you are without dying, we will be glad to share. She will be moving this fall out here on my land, and we are tring to get some so she can plant them here also...she is always glad to share her petty flowers!

you can try and use rooting hormone and cuttings, or you can try hardwood cutting methods. both can take a long time to get them to start so you might want to try and read up on them.

I would LOVE to have some hydrangea starts. I may see if Mom will let me practice on some cuttings from her hydrangea. It's gotta be at least 40-50 years old.
Root hormones makes me nervous, though. Have you ever read all the warnings?

if you have the time and you are a little scared of rooting hormone you can make your own from willow trees if you have any around you. all you have to do is fill a bucket with water then put some willow branches in the water adn let them sit for a long time(months) the water will get cloudy after a while and you can then take the willow twigs out and let the sun evaporate the water off adn the powder left is natural rooting hormone or you can just suspend a cutting of hydrangea in some of the water/hormone mix out of direct sunlight and you should get roots after a while

I have a neighbor with a willow tree. Have to ask if he's going to trim it any time soon

I was thinking I'd just take some cuttings, put them in a peat moss/vermiculite combo and keep them moist for a while. I've had some luck starting other plants from cuttings this way. Just have to keep them on the porch in th shade and keep them wet.

They are very easy to root !!! All you need to do is dig down about 1/2 inch in the dirt then you just take a limb and put in down in the dirt and lay a brick or rock on top of the limb and It will start growing roots into the ground . When it has enough then you just cut it from the orginal plant.
