On 4th I went out, My husband took me and my nieces to watch fireworks. It was so much fun. Next morning I checked on my chicks to find out that one was missing. I thought it was gone forever kind of a thing. couldn't figure out how it got out or anything. Well around dinner time on the 5th I hear this chirping at my front door. I thought I was going crazy. Open the door and there is my missing chick!! I put it in the cage outside and it fit between the bars. It's now in a different cage that it cannot get out of.
Also all my chicks are doing really well. My now 8 week old chick is acting like a broody hen with the 4 week old chicks. it's so cute. She actually fluffs her feathers at anything that comes near them, she'll make a few clucks and the chicks follow her. She puts her wings over the babies at night. I never thought an 8 week old would have a maternal instinct that strong. It gives me hope to be able to hatch chicks later and give them to her to raise.
