I was out of the chicken world for a little bit, and now that I’m back there seems to be 20 or more new hybrid breeds! The new craze here in Alaska is the Dominant Copper breed, I was curious if anyone here has raised any, and what they look like as adults and how their egg color is holding up.

Also, I wasn’t sure what forum to ask this in.
Thanks!

I have DC’s and they are laying. Most of the eggs are dark brown. Some of the eggs are dark brown with almost black speckles, some are almost Hershey chocolate brown and a small number of them are light brown. The egg color seems to vary a bit. The other thing is that I almost get a double yoker about every other day.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I'm wondering whether any of you (or others) remember at what age your dominant coppers started laying? (Ours are just at 12 weeks now, but I'm curious.)

prob around 4.5 to 5.5 months. they're great layers. obviously you'll know when you find an egg on the floor...then they learn to use the nesting box instinctively. a lot of their eggs are as dark brown as brown can be or speckled
