Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

@Sassysouth In the future you can always add bantam Cochin's by ordering them. I know shipping is costly but disease risk is WAY less especially considering the seller disclosed an illness.

Cackle has a huge variety. :D
I <3 Cackle. I'm not one for bantams (I keep chickens for meat and egss) but I think I want to get some LF Blue or Splash Cochins from them to breed with my Black rooster (Avatar). They really are handsome birds. I love that I could have a large variety of birds and still breed true to color since the blue gene dilutes black.

I got blue LF this year. Not sure where the feed store ordered from but they are huge and gorgeous!

This is one at about 20 weeks old. Maybe a tad younger even.

I actually have 5 bantam cochins, 6 silkies and 5 bantam brahmas. All 3-4 weeks. And 1 Red Production, 18 months. I know there will many roosters in those. I do have 1 brahma cockerel (I ordered him and he is obvious), not sure about the others yet.

Well, one of my brats paid the ultimate price today for being a brat, but my other four brats impressed me especially my IL roo. Red Tailed hawk flew over the pasture today... My IL roo herded his girls off to cover, one brat went and hid in the dog house, the Toms in pasture huddled everyone up in their shelters or inside their defensive circle. and the one brat, totally oblivious continued to scratch out in the open. The hawk landed outside the fence she was in (just welded wire), reached through and snatched her through the fence. She then flew off as she realized I was gaining on her—but too late for the brat chicken.

Since it was late in the year, I could only order Bantams from My Pet Chicken. No body else sold them in September and they were expensive. After they arrived, I decided on Silkies and then really wanted some Cochins, and found some.
The silkies I know for sure were all born on the same day, but 3 are huge and 1 looks like 2 weeks old. She is a runt for sure!
