Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

GOOOOOOOD MORNING SQUATCH WATCHERS.

I hate you all. Each and every single one of you have cursed me... CURSED I say! Normal people... NORMAL PEOPLE don't walk out of their door, go to run 2 measly little errands... and come home with 6 DAMN CHICKENS!!!

Well, they are still at the mulch place... picking them up tomorrow AFTER DH gets home and we can build a temporary coop for them for quarantine. Poor things. The story behind this sucks, so I had to do something to give them a better life. I mean yeesh!

This didn't USED TO BE my life. I could go to a store and come home with what I went to the store for.. not moar chickies!
:lau:hugs:love:goodpost:I love soft hearted people.
*THIS MEANS YOU

Also can't wait to hear the story.

More pics.... kinda suck, kiddo was taking them... but anyone venture a guess as to breed (s)? The guy told me, they came with a roo... but the roo was charging at their customers. Said one day his brother basically drop kicked the roo and broke it's wing... and then he THINKS a fox or coyote got it... but no, never fixed it's wing or culled it or anything. After that story, I really had NO CHOICE but to figure out how to ge tthem out of that situation.

Ba**ard.

I bought a hoop bender, which helps considerably with cost, but by the time you include hardware and all the pipe (I do use plywood 4' up for predators). It's still about $1,000 for a 20X40. An 8X12 cattle panel shelter is about $200.

Pepper Pike. Just dumb if people have had chickens for a while. They said they decided to put it on the books because people kept calling and asking about an ordinance. Why not reply "there isn't one."

I understand maybe a lot size restriction. You don't want people with a postage stamp yard keeping 20 chickens. But that coop seems really small to me. I'd get 4 birds and 4 coops!

Did they even ask a person who knows chickens what a chicken should have?
Probably not. What the people there should do is go and talk to them about what is realistic for keeping chickens, esp if when the min you can buy from a store is 6. And coop size max should be at least the size required by those 6 chickens. I get not wanting roos, but their restrictions are going to cause issue. Hopefully the current chicken owners will contact them and try to fix things before it's set. Maybe get info from other nearby cities.

I had to cement in the floor of my coop, due to dogs digging in. I put a bunch of fresh straw on top, then throw whole corn in for them to mix the straw with the old straw. Really, do not have to shovel it out very often that way, look up "deep bedding". If it starts to cake up, throw in a little more corn!
I have a wood floor, but use straw. I never thought of tossing corn in to get them to mix it. I figured they'd dig around in it for the pellets they knock into it, but apparently not. I'll have to give that a try... after I clean everything out... again.

I'm zoned agriculture and a registered farm... Zoning, was one of my chief considerations before buying. If I buy more than 8 of any farm animal other than poultry in a given year, I have to get a license for that animal. So when I buy hogs, I'll buy 4 from two different farms. 1 bore, two sows, and 1 feeder. Then they will be allowed to be fruitful and multiply.
Hope you like us, 'cause we're all coming to live with you!

Wait, you said 'buy'... Does that mean if you make your own then you don't have to license them? Don't say anything too loud or they'll realize their mistake.

But..but....but I thought I already was a squatch watcher :hit
I've been here since at least page 5...
Did you mean to tag pegasusi? She is new and shared a helpful link for buying hardware cloth:confused:
Yes! Oops @Pegasusi that invite was meant for you! I've spent the past 67 minutes trying to catch up on today's posts!
Had to catch up on yard work first because the DH said "IF YOU GET A CHANCE TODAY... then gave me a list".
