Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

Just wanted to let all of you know that I throughly enjoy reading this thread everyday. I laugh & sometimes cry, but most of all I enjoy being around others who love their chickens as much as I do. I'm going to bed eventually. Busy day at work tomorrow.

So sweet!!! If one of my girls did that, I'd never be able to put her down to leave for work.

Yeah, he was still really young and "undisciplined" in poultry keeping, but it was hard to hear about all those deaths. I think he finally decided to sell off all of his remaining chickens earlier this year. He just never figured it out.

I've seen a lot of these fights unfold over the last couple of years. Folks need to be armed with facts and shoot down the ignorant. People who nothing about chickens, come up with all kinds of things such as humanly raised, dirty, salmonella, and on and on. Best to be armed with animal welfare standards, from recognized organizations and true science about disease and cleanliness. Often it really boils down to someone thinks yards with chickens make the town look unsophisticated.

I'm lucky. We have ordinances based on lot size, but generally 3 hens, no roosters.
BUT no one in my neighborhood gives a flying fig! We definitely have at least 2 people with roosters, one pet pig and a woman who drives her miniature horse-drawn mini carriage around.

Oh, they have to be fenced in and only in the back yard. The coop, If that's what you can call it, has to be so far from the property line and other existing structures.

I don't have a coop, I have my hen-cave that I share with my featherbabies. Duh
