Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

2-3 days is close to ideal. Up to a week is still good. Have they been stored point down?

I would put them in an egg carton point down for a day to make sure the air cells are where they are supposed to be before giving them to the hen.

Just in case you didn't notice the updated title, ( because I don't want you to have to be up all night ready 500 pages) The rooster was caught ages ago, the hen never showed up and may have gone feral nearer to a neighboring farm, or not, so we're all hanging around til spring just to be sure.

It is a defense mechanism. You are supposed to look at them all cute and cuddly and completely forget what a total pain in the butt they can be!

Poor Windy ain't got no buddies. I gave up and let her sleep in her chosen nest box. Better there then next to a meanie.
