Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

6-10 week old = broiler
10-14 week old = fryer
14 week to 6 Month = Roaster
6 Month + = Stewing...

A LH hen will probably dress out between 2 and 3 pounds.

Thanks!

@Smuvers Farm this is my little Sumatra cockerel :) gifted to me by someone I met on here, actually!!! He's a funny dude- likes to chase squirrels :lau

He is gorgeous!!!! Do you have sumatra hens as well?

I have 2 brown leghorns. They are still pretty good layers at 5+ years old.

I feel the need to cull them because of the new batch of pullets being added to the flock... and they are the bullies...... They are too mean to maintain.

Thanks!
maintain.

BTW, when we say roaster, remember that old black and grey roasting pan grandma had, that's your best weapon... low and slow with stock in the bottom.

GOOOD MORNING ALL!! Happy Monday!!

So, what is everyone's morning routine? For me it's get up, potty, get my PIC* up so he can take out the dogs, get the Nuggets fermented feed out of the oven and served up, PIC back in with the dogs and then back outside to help feed the Nuggets, FlufferButters and Littles. This burns our first hour awake.

Still ain't had no coffee........:caf

What breeds might I ask?

I think my next purchase will be a few sumatras......

Silkies, Easter eggers and bantam Cochins! I already have breeding groups for those breeds :) I'd like to breed some standard Cochins also but I need a couple more hens and a roo!

I've heard mixed reviews of the sumatras personality, but mine is really even keeled and mellow. Nice with my other birds and other Roos, all around a really nice guy! And soooo pretty.
