Anyone have luck catching a feral chicken?? UPDATE: Rooster caught, no hen

This is not a small waterer, but I love it and use it in my brooder. Mine is gravity fed as I don't have running water out there--but it can be connected to a garden hose as well.

I don't use it in pasture because anything elevated get's knocked down. I've given into rubber bowls (they can't break em) and kittie pools.

X2. I hope they don't mess with your birds...
That is pretty high tech!

GOOOOOOOD MORNING SQUATCH WATCHERS.

I hate you all. Each and every single one of you have cursed me... CURSED I say! Normal people... NORMAL PEOPLE don't walk out of their door, go to run 2 measly little errands... and come home with 6 DAMN CHICKENS!!!

Well, they are still at the mulch place... picking them up tomorrow AFTER DH gets home and we can build a temporary coop for them for quarantine. Poor things. The story behind this sucks, so I had to do something to give them a better life. I mean yeesh!

This didn't USED TO BE my life. I could go to a store and come home with what I went to the store for.. not moar chickies!
We are all evil, evil people!!! We shouldn't enable you....we are all truly sorry. NOT. We love that you got more chickens:celebrate

Welcome to the "Crazy bird lady" club. Chickens are just the gateway drug, next come ducks, lovely geese, few turkeys . . . ;) People you know will say, I have to move and could you take my cockatiels? Lost parakeets will walk up to your door tired and hungry. I think the birds have a secret mark they put on our houses. I am pretty sure cats do the same!

Oh no!! I'm in Ohio too. What city is it?
Pepper Pike. Just dumb if people have had chickens for a while. They said they decided to put it on the books because people kept calling and asking about an ordinance. Why not reply "there isn't one."

I understand maybe a lot size restriction. You don't want people with a postage stamp yard keeping 20 chickens. But that coop seems really small to me. I'd get 4 birds and 4 coops!

Did they even ask a person who knows chickens what a chicken should have?

Put some shelled corn in between the layers, you're girls will gladly stir up the compost and keep the nasty stuff buried.

ETA: They can also prevent it from hard capping.

Shelled corn, is this like the cracked dry corn I get from TSC... or canned cooked corn? (Gah such a noob question)

Rae, sweetie, my chicken math is just fine... I have 12 in the run, a broody mama with her 7, 2 week olds in the brooder/hospital coop, and 15 eggs in the incubator.... my math is SPOT ON!!!

oh wait.... ::: mumbling::... YUP... needed 6 moar chickens!
I bet your PIC didn't do much to try to talk you out of getting them either as he is infected too. ;)

My town has no restrictions except that you can't have a rooster. Apparently they are working on some sort of ordinance. If they don't grandfather me in they will have to pry my chickens away from me.

shelled is whole dried corn, what your cracked corn is made of. Reason we use shelled, is it lasts longer. I'd have to look up the shelf life on cracked corn. I wanna say 2 months, but just not sure.
